Like i said, a reset forced by the unit itself is more comprehensive than a user reset. Yes, "nuvi2x5W_GCDFile__760.gcd" indicates HWID 0872, the MTK HWID 1091 is named "nuvi2x5W_GCDFile-MTK__780.gcd". Do you want some old versions to try? Let me know and i'll upload them in the next 24 hrs.

Here are V3.10 and V5.00. It may refuse to even load 3.10 so try 5.00 first.
    Spoiler:

If V5.00 won't force a reset try to load V3.10.

Strange. I just tested that V5 GCD on a US 265W, worked fine to reset it with successful downgrade to V5 from 7.80. I've reloaded V7.80 and then used V5.30 on an SD card which also downgraded it and forced a reset. Maybe the update on your 265W was interrupted or the GCD file was corrupted during my compression of it to the RAR file or on your extraction of it.

    First let's unbrick your 265W:
    Spoiler:
Load this cure fw in preboot: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    1. Extract Cure_265W.zip to a convenient folder, your desktop will do.
    2. Drag 082701000780.rgn onto Updater.exe, that will open Updater, select the radio button for 'USB Device' and leave the GUI open and visible.
    3. Plug a suitable USB cable into a REAR port of your PC.
    4. Hold the top left corner of device screen firmly with your left thumb and connect the microUSB to it.
    5. Immediately you see the device details appear in the window to the right of 'USB Device' press 'OK' or hit enter key on your keyboard and keep holding the screen firmly until the flash finishes, if you can see 'Loader' or 'Software Loading' on the screen it's safe to let go otherwise keep holding.

You should now have Mass Storage Mode again so connect to PC and remove the gupdate.gcd from the Garmin folder. Then flash the original firmware in the same way using preboot: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Now your unit should be back to life.

I've now tried V5.30 in my 265W which also forced a reset from V7.80. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Extract it to find the GCD and this time use an SD card's Garmin folder for the gupdate.gcd, that way if it goes wrong it won't brick the unit so easily.

Steps 3-5 are to put the gps in preboot mode which I tried all yesterday afternoon and I couldn't get it to work. I pressed the top left corner, the top right corner. bottom right corner, before plugin it to the computer, after plugin it in, turning it on and holding the on button. No luck. All I get is the White screen-of-death

I think it wasn't the V5 GCD file that bricked it, i just checked and it was only the V3.1 file that was RAR'ed so there wasn't any error in compressing or extracting the V5 file, which is the original nuvi2x5W_regionfileonly__500.gcd. I've downloaded it myself to double-check it, it's identical in hashes to the file i used to downgrade my 265W:

Are you forcing it fully OFF by holding the slide to the left until the screen goes dark, then powering it on ONLY by connecting to PC AFTER you hold the screen?

Yes, in fact I've even disconnected the battery to see if it made any difference

Has your device ever been flashed with an Asian firmware?
