Question Garmin Zumo 660 - Update Map

    Hello,

Ive recently purchased a used Garmin Zumo 660, and want to update it to City Navigator NT 2017.10.
Ive managed to find a update online containing several different files and file extensions.
Normally ive just copied the files to the SDCARD:\Garmin\ folder, but im a bit unsure what to do at this point

Could you please help, figuring out where to put these files - and if the map is even compatible with the Zumo 660?
(File list is attached as 2 images).

Would it be wise to Firmware / System update the GPS - and if so how do i do that?
Any there any other information, that would be usefull to have?

    Thanks in advance

As a new member in the Garmin section, it's always a good initiative to start here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

In general it is a good habit to update your GPS to the latest firmware version.

A wealth of information is alo readily available in our tutorial section: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Do some reading first. Any specific questions, do not hesitate to post back!

    BTW: welcome to GPS Power!

    Edit:
Bear in mind that MapSource is no longer supported by Garmin and over the years has become increasingly incompatible with newer maps. Use BaseCamp and/or MapInstall to create an *.img map file from a PC installed map version.

    Hello,

Thanks for the guides, and i apologize for not searching before asking
It was some interresting reading, but i still have some few questions.
Ive downloaded a "new" version of the map, from this thread / post (post number 4 - magnet link):
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    My questions are as follows:
1: The gmapprom.img is already unlocked? so i wont have to use the gimgunlock.exe correct?

2: is it correctly understod, that i can only update the .jcv files on the Zumo 660, if the existing .jcv files are the name (except for the changed digit)?

3: When updating the .jcv files to a version matching the unlocked .img file - should i also update the Firmware / System on the GPS, or is that not necessary?

In the past i used to update Garmin Nuvis by just copying the .img file to the SDCARD:\Garmin folder - but it seems that things have gotten a bit more complicated?

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me

    1. As you can see in the screenshot in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], the gmapprom.img is locked. You still need to use gimgunlock.exe to unlock it.

    2. Correct, but you're not restricted to it. You may be able to use other JCV files as well. For the European map, JCV files come in a variety of sorts. Garmin provides different versions for identical devices but with different coverage, matching the coverage of the associated partial map. If you place the JCV file on a microSD, storage space is no issue, so you can go for the large full size D2504210A.jcv file when using the CN Europe NT 2017.10 map.

    3. It's always a good habit to update to the latest version firmware. Bugs get corrected and sometimes new features get implemented. It's not a necessity though to update firmware at the same time when you update a map.

    4. For zumo 660 it's not really changed. You can still place the unlocked versions of gmapsupp.img and gmap3d.img in the SD:\Garmin folder and the JCV file in the SD:\Garmin\JCV folder.

    5. You're welcome!

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply - its very much appreciated

I will try the following, hopefully its correct

1: I will use the unlocker, to unlock the .img files (gmapprom.img and gmap3d.img) - then copy the unlocked .img file to the Zumo device SD Card.

2: Copy the LaneAssist Full to SDCARD:\Garmin\JCV\D2504210A.jcv

3: Update the Zumo 660 with Garmin Express

Don't forget to rename gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img if placed on a microSD.
