help GPSmap 276c only shows "no map" and brown background after installing bluechart map...

ok. This is my first post, but I'm quiet desperate. I'm searching, reading and trying since 3 days how to get an unlocked bluechart displayed on my GPSmap 276c.

First of all: I'm using the 276 now for around 8 years when going sailing once per year, and I love this device. Since the datacards are discontinued, as far as i know, I'm interested in loading the map HEU452S or better VEU014R (dont' know if I can use the "vision" charts?!) from here. The result at the moment: (patched) MapSource 6.16.3 shows the correct map, (pathced) MI 4.0.4 shows the correct map and says "successful transfered", the 276c shows in map information "HXEU452S ...", but in the screen there is only a brown area with a outlined rectangle, where the mapdetails should, only without any mapdetails. When I pull out the datacard, the rectangle disappeards, so I think it'S correctly written to the external memory.

    Here´s what I've done:
    download VEU014R and HEU452S
unlocked them with PGFT_2254_x64 (also tried gimgtools-0.03-win32)
load and split them in GMapTool with cGPSmapper (MapTK said "terminated something", and I think it couldn't generate the 9999999.img)
install them (install.bat) to my Win10-System
MS shows the map as "not lockable"
Load them via the patched MI to the 276c.

But it just don't show up as a map, but as an installed map family. I don't get. Next week we wanted to go the mediterian sea and take the device with us. Has anyone an idea? I've really read A LOT posts in the last 3 days, but I have no clue...

When you splitted the BC for MS did you check "create TDB for marine map" in Gmaptool?
    Post Gmaptool warning/error please.

catymag, I've used the option "create TDB for marine map" as in the tutorial (as far as I remember), but I will repeat the procedure tomorrow. Then I can send the log/messages.

x-trail, many thanks for your instructions. I will do so tomorrow. Only problem: a cannot download the New gimgunlock-0.03+MapSigPatch, because when I hit the "like this post" button in the first time, Ive got a "<p>Database Error</p>, and each following time "You don't have permission to undo a button click.". I just cannot load the attached files. So I used the original tool from
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
. Don't know if this is sufficient?! Can you or catmag provide the tool with the patch?

And just one small problem that can be with these oldies; have external power connected to the device when transferring maps. I have had strange errors with my 276c (and also the old 176) when transferring maps, even with fully charged battery. No error messages but still corrupted map in the gps.

    1. Unlock

I've tried 3 different maps. First map was the VEU014R_v.17. I've pulled it on the gimgunlock-0.03+MapSigPatch-icon on the desktop. To be sure I've opened the img in the Protected Garmin file toolkit_2254_x64 - it clearly said:

    Analyzing File c:\temp\veu014r.img
Seems to be a good IMG File as signature 'DSKIMG' was found...
Finished to analyze the file !
This IMG File is not locked !

I still don't know if one can convert g2-bluechart vision mapdata for an old g2 device.

Next map was HEU802X, already unlocked (PGFT confirmed this). For the next steps I've used this map for my tests.

The last map was HEU452S, also unlocked (PGFT confirmed this), I have not an locked version.

    2. Create Folder

under C:\Garmin\ I've added the folders
    HXEU802X-Mediterranean Sea & Iberian Pen. v2015.5

    3. open unlocked img

    I've opened HEU802X.img in GMapToolSetup08220a
In the options I've selected "Advanced options" and set MapTK with the apth C:/Program Files (x86)/MapTk/MapTk.exe

    4. select split

    mkay

    5. fill in

    Dircetory "C:/Garmin/HXEU802X-Mediterranean Sea & Iberian Pen. v2015.5/"
    Create "Files for MS"
    Compile preview map "true"
Mapset name "HXEU802X-Mediterranean Sea & Iberian Pen. v2015.5"
Set mapset FID "true", FID "3842", PID "1"
Create TBD for marine map "true"

    6. split all

MapTK throw a dialog box with the message "compilation terminated"
    GMapTool's output:

    Program start.

    ====================================================================

    Split all maps.
    Input file: C:/Temp/HEU802X.img.

    End.

    7. install

by executing "C:\Garmin\HXEU802X-Mediterranean Sea & Iberian Pen. v2015.5\install.bat"

    8. Connect 276c

connect via USB together WITH the external power cord.
Open MS. But the map was "unscrollable", many areas weren't rendered in MS. So I deinstalled the map with "C:\Garmin\HXEU802X-Mediterranean Sea & Iberian Pen. v2015.5\uninstall.bat" and repeated step 6., but with cGPSMapper in the options.

    6. Split all

    7. install

by executing "C:\Garmin\HXEU802X-Mediterranean Sea & Iberian Pen. v2015.5\install.bat"

    8. connect and open MS

Now I could move correctly in the MS.

    9. Zoom out, 10. and 11.

    I've chosen 2 tiles: M0000040, M0000039
    and named them "M0000040, M0000039 of HXEU802X-v2015.5"

    12. transfer

    The 276c confirmed "M0000040, M0000039 of HXEU802X-v2015.5"

... and YES! the mapdata was correctly compiled and can be viewed on the 276c.

    ---

Now, I was highly motivated and repeated all steps with the g2-bluechart vision map VEU014R-Italy, Adriatic Sea v2015.5.

This could be done. I've selected only tiles/maps in MS beginning with "m", because I think all outher maps contain additional "vision"-data like topo, harbour-info, pictures.

But the result wasn't comparable to the non-vision map HXEU802X-v2015.5 - for example tons were displayed, but not their color, they were all black, with no additional informations. So I absolutely cannot recommend using the vision-charts, at least not like I converted one. Maybe it was, because I only selected the "m"-tiles.

    ---

Netxt time I've repeated Step 2. to 12. with the bluechart map HXEU452S-Adriatic Sea, North Coast v2014.0 . This even worked with MI. Only now it appeared to me, that I've always chosen the wrong map-tiles in MS or MI - I think I've always got the "v"-tile, which seems to be a crude overview. In MS and also in MI I've got all details, when I marked all areas with the mouse.

    ---

The only important step is, like X-Trail described it:
"Click your left mouse button on the upper left corner of the brown square you see and drag it diagonally to the lower right corner to select ALL (!!!) the sub-maps (tiles)..."

And better plug in the external power supply. Just to be sure.

    ---

Guys, you helped me very fast, kind and competent. Thank you very much!!!

By the way, does anyone know a decent alternative to the oldies like the 276c, whicht doesn't base on a rugged ios-device? I've never saw something comparable...
