Default Nuvi 760 traffic never works

I searched but couldn't find an answer. I have an older Nuvi 760 with GTM20 traffic receiver in the USA and have enabled traffic. I select the traffic icon in the menu but always get a message "no traffic data available". This is while driving around the Washington DC and Baltimore area. Is this traffic receiver no longer in service? If not, I keep trying to make it work. Maybe the subscription is screwed up?

Do you mean you've enabled traffic using this method?: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. If so, i've also found that GTM20/21 can be a problem to successfully add new subscriptions for use with nuvi 6xx and 7xx etc. You may have better result if you use the other method to extend the expiry date for an original 'short-term' [not Lifetime] TTN USA subscription which has already expired [scroll down to "USE THIS TOOL ONLY TO EXTEND EXPIRING SUBSCRIPTIONS" at the base of the initial post of the above thread.

Unfortunately to add another problem i think that subscriptions on the older [pre-GTM25] TMC receivers are also somehow tied to a specific device as well as the traffic receiver.

Yes, I enabled traffic following the method you linked. The menu>settings>traffic shows the TTN USA lifetime subscription. But when I select the traffic icon from tools, I get a ""no traffic data available" dialog. Maybe my area is not transmitting the TTN traffic data?

I am using the original GTM-20 that came with the 760.

The primary method to add an LifeTime sub is what you mean i guess. Doing that may have 'overwritten' the original TTN limited sub [usually 12 or 15 months i think from memory] and it's now been replaced by the faulty LT sub.

The menu>settings>traffic shows the TTN USA lifetime subscription.
Yep, but does it still show the 'expired' original sub for TTN as well is the crucial question. If it does show both subs it may be possible to extend the original using the second method with jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe as explained behind the spoiler under 'USE THIS TOOL ONLY TO EXTEND EXPIRING SUBSCRIPTIONS' as i suggested in the previous reply. Even if it only shows the new LT one i'd be trying the date-extend method anyway.

But when I select the traffic icon from tools, I get a ""no traffic data available" dialog.
Exactly the same symptom i've seen adding Suna AU traffic sub to NA GTM20 and EU GTM21 receivers.

Maybe my area is not transmitting the TTN traffic data?
You can bet that TTN is still broadcasting FM TMC in the DC/Baltimore area for sure, i'll give you London to a brick on that bet.

I am using the original GTM-20 that came with the 760.
At least eliminates one possible problem.

I used the tool to extend the TTN subscription and it now shows it expires 1/23/2023 and Navteq is showing lifetime subscription.

Sorry, i think that the problem is simply that the methods in 'Using TMC in Garmin nuvi for free' thread are only completely good for GTM25 and later. Earlier GTM devices actually work somewhat differently to the FM GTM25/26/35/36 and hybrid HD/FM GTM60 all of which i've been able to successfully add lifetime FM subs to.

Perhaps one of our Navigation Software Experts experienced with older traffic receivers can help. I'm very keen to find an answer as well because i have 2 NA GTM 20, an EU GTM 21 and an EU GTM12 all of which won't work with added AU subs. I'm unable to say if extending their expired OEM NA or EU subs would work as i cannot test in those continents remotely of course.
