Default Connecting an old garmin data card reader to a modern computer

    Hi everyone,

My brother in law just bought a used Garmin GPSMAP 172c. This old model uses mapsource data cards as storage. The usb card reader is not working on my computer, since it's only compatible with old 32bit OS. What would be the easiest way to solve this problem... 32bit virtual pc or do you have anything else to suggest?

172c, that's an old beast. Do you have the serial cable that came with the gps?
In that case you can transfer maps to the device without the use of the card reader. Remember to have the device connected to external power, even with fully charged battery the transfer can be faulty. (Could need some modding and soldering depending how your cable looks) My 176 had that problem I remember.
