Default Can I get lLifetime NA maps for a Lifetime EU unit?

With a EU version of a Garmin 590LMT I was told I can get North America maps for it. Is there a way to buy lifetime maps for it? I can't find where, if possible. The Garmin buy-it page that I found for lifetime NA maps says it is not for EU units with lifetime EU maps on them.

What you've found is correct. Lifetime Maps [LM] can only be purchased for the region originally loaded to the unit so only 'one-off' NA can be purchased from Garmin for your EU localised zumo without any additional files such as JCV. There are some minor exceptions such as units with USA only mapping can have LM for all NA added but that's only because Garmin doesn't offer USA only as LM. There were also some rare units in the past often called 'transcontinental' or something that had both NA & EU loaded as OEM but as non-LM. For those you can purchase LM for both but you wouldn't nowdays because of the cost involved, as it'd be as cheap or cheaper to just buy a separate device anyway.

Or, you can go to the NA map threads and get it all for nix/nada/zilch/nuttin' .... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Are the Bluechart maps as good or better than the normal Garmin maps?

Aside for the loading differences vs auto-update (assuming that's not an option), What's the downside?

GPS City lists the 590LM as "Bluechart g2 Map Compatible: Limited". Not sure limited by or to what.

    Thank you.

OK, trying to do some of my own homework to see if this path is viable. I gather the Bluechart maps in the links provided ARE the "real" Garmin maps? I may be getting ahead of myself but if I could plead for a brief explanation of what these 5 possible NA maps are, I think that would answer my questions. Enough that I can dig in and learn the process if applicable:

City Navigator North America NT 2017.10
Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2015.40
City Navigator North America 2009 MapSource (NON-NT)
    Approach CourseView Americas
OSM based North America Maps for Garmin fenix

And, thank you for what appears to be a good alternative Neil

City Navigator North America NT 2017.10 --> The latest version of the NA road map for nuvi, zumo, etc.
Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2015.40 --> Old version of the NA road map, forget about it.
City Navigator North America 2009 MapSource (NON-NT) --> "ancient" version of the NA road map ("Mapsource" means this map is for PC installation, ".img" or "image" is the Garmin device version of the map).
Approach CourseView Americas CourseView is the name of a series of Golf Courses maps around the world and Approach is the name of the Garmin device that uses them when you play golf.
OSM based North America Maps for Garmin fenix --> OpenStreetMap.org based map, with very limited set of map features, black and white, especially designed (...shrank version) for the wrist watch Fenix and very small in size

BlueCharts are Garmin's marine maps (charts) for use with Garmin Marine GPS plotters and most On The Trail devices. Nuvis and Zumos can't show the map correctly and with the right colors (ie green depth contours). 90% of the info these maps contain can't be shown on Garmin On The Road devices.
Your Zumo can read road maps like City Navigator North America NT XX.XXX and various Topo maps

    Excellent, thank you.

So re the 1st one (City Navigator North America NT 2017.10 --> The latest version of the NA road map for nuvi, zumo, etc.),

That is the same exact thing that comes via lifetime updates from Garmin??

If that's it, and I can use it on the EU unit, then I'm PC literate so I can definitely figure out the process with all the resource links I found in the sticky here.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Yes it is, and all the 'extras' are also available in the map thread.

As you're PC literate you'll work it out fine. Have a look at the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] if the fog closes in on you, especially the first one listed: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and importantly this one: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Many more might be relevant if you get stuck too. Be quicker for you than asking more here and waiting for answers. If you must ask, you should now post queries in the NA 2017.10 map thread but only after you've read the tuts.. BTW, NA 2015.40 link had been left in the index through oversight only, i've now removed it.

    Thread marked 'Solved'.
