    Default Garmin Oregon 450 - VEU706L Installation

    Hi Guru's,

I have the Garmin Oregon 450, purchased to put marine maps and city navigator on.

    I have downloaded the files Garmin BlueChart g2 Vision VEU706L - UK & Ireland v2012.5 (v14.00) it contains a file gmapsupp.img 3,858, 880KB.

I have copied this .img onto an SD card and can view the maps in Garmin Homeport.

I have tried to copy the same file to the G drive (the SD card in the Oregon when connected via USB), when the GPS restarts it says Can't read maps. I tried copying the Gimgunlock.exe to the G drive and dragged the .img over it. A black box ran through a load of text. I still get the message Can't read maps when turning on the GPS again.

What am I doing wrong and how can I get the Oregon to read the map on the SD card?

    Any assistance gratefully received.

HomePort can see even locked image files. Is it in a folder named 'Garmin' in root of the card? Or perhaps you've not unlocked the chart correctly. Ensure you're using the latest version of gimunlock: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], even though i think even the original version without the map sig patch should work with Oregon x50 HWID 0896 because they don't have MSV or GSV in firmware: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Check the 'unlocked' img file in GMapTool: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Press 'Details' then use the Search button to look for 'locked'. If not found it should be unlocked.

Many thanks. I now have a map on the Oregon unlocked. I used the GarminUnlockerAlternativev8.0.1 which did the trick. I now need a larger SD disk as the UK file is too large for the 4GB SD. Excellent work all.

Ok, your problem is Solved. BTW, Garmin UnLocker Alternative v8.0.0/8.0.1 has gimgunlock +MapSig.exe as its unlock engine. Using gimgunlock +MapSig itself directly should also have worked fine.

As to why this big chart won't fit on a 4GB [~4,000,000,000 bytes] media card, see Post #4 in the chart thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I'm not sure your report of the img size being 3,858,880KB is accurate. That's 3.85888GB if you mean decimal or ~3.68GiB if you mean binary. In that case it would fit on a 4GB [~3.86GiB] card. It's reported in the chart thread that the img is ~3.91GiB [~4.2GB] in size which does align with it not fitting on a 4GB card.
