    help Nuvi 255W

Okay... I have been going through this forum for a week trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. I have a Nuvi 255W, just recently updated with Garmin Express. I originally downloaded a torrent map but obviously did not work. I have downloaded the 'Garmin city Navigator North America NT 2015.30 Unlocked IMG' file and unzipped it. I have followed the instructions down to the letter. The device only has about 1.8GB of free space and I am using a 8GB SD card. I also tried adding a unl file. Still no luck. I also tried the Garmin Unlocker but its not wanting to run properly. The GPS still boots properly, and connects to the computer, there's no issues there. When I reboot the GPS it says "No detailed maps found that support routing. The Nuvi cannot be used without them."
Any ideas please! I am very frustrated at this point.

I have downloaded the Garmin city Navigator North America NT 2015.30 Unlocked IMG
Old map, released one year ago, we are at 2016.20 now.
I have followed the instructions down to the letter.
    Good instructions? We don't know
I also tried adding a unl file.
If it's unlocked it wont work.
I also tried the Garmin Unlocker
Too old to unlock new maps.
"No detailed maps found that support routing. The Nuvi cannot be used without them."
    Nuvi doesn't see your map
    Wrong naming?
    Not unlocked properly?
    Wrong path?
Old .unl file left in nuvi?
Look at Tutorials Index to get info and instructions or give more details.

Thank you for your quick response. I have tried the file named as 'gmapprom.ing' and 'gmapsupp.img'. The file I downloaded (from here) was one already unlocked. I created the unl as directed in the appropriate forum. I somehow accidentally downloaded a map for the Philippines and saved it directly onto the GPS. It worked...

Backup files you have in nuvi on pc before doing anything.
gmapsupp.img naming is ok, put it in sd/Garmin and if it's unlocked properly don't add the .unl.
Remove any gmapsupp.unl you find in internal memory.
I guess you have the latest firmware in nuvi

Forgot to say, sd must be formatted as Fat32.

For nüvi 255W, FW 5.10 or later is required to recognise map files larger than 2 GB. Although you say you have updated the device via Garmin Express, please confirm which FW version is loaded in your device.

The SD card was formatted to FAT32, and I have reloaded the map with file name 'gmapsupp.img' into a Garmin file on the SD card. I have removed the original maps and backed them up. According to The Garmin Express updater the FW is 7.8

If you have folder Garmin on SD and if you add inside gmapsupp.img then nuvi must see your map if you have turned ON in nuvi settings.
Download new 2016 map and try with that and if you will rename name of map be cerfull that you don't rename in gmapsupp.img.img becouse in this way map will not be visible.

Is the map on the SD card recognised by BaseCamp? If it is, you may have Windows on your computer set to hide file extensions for known file types. If that is the case, it will hide the .img extension of the map file. If you are not aware of that, and add the file extension yourself, then in actual fact the full name of the file has become gmapsupp.img.img (the computer only showing gmapsupp.img). Verify your computer settings as follows:

Displaying the File Extension in Windows 7
    - Click Start (bottom left corner)
    - Type "folder options" (without the quotes) in the search box.
    - Select Folder Options from the results list.
    - A dialog box with the title Folder Options will appear.
    - Select the View tab.
    - Uncheck (untick) the box for "Hide extensions for known file types".
    - Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog box.

After having verified you are using the correct settings, check the file name again and make sure it is gmapsupp.img and not gmapsupp.img.img.

If using another Windows version, instructions will be similar but may differ in detail. Use Google if necessary to find the right instructions.

    Edit:
I see loly was thinking along the same lines as me while I was writing my post.
