Default Garmin Navtune 7199 - Address Navigation Issue

    Hi,

I'm posting this thread to see if you are able to help me regarding a problem someone I know is having (I do not own the device).

    It's a Garmin Navtune 7199

Here is the Official WebSite (Brazil):

Here is a translated version (with google translate)

As you can see, all info is in Portuguese. It happens this model seems to be manufactured in Taiwan and sold in Brazil. The actual device we are talking about was bought in Argentina (Where I'm right now).

    The issue:

If you try to manually enter some address, with "street/number", "intersection" or "City" combinations, it fails to start navigation/directions. The map itself, by the way, a custom map (showing the link and info later), is correctly shown, meaning that while driving, streets and everything is shown correctly. However, if you select a point on the map via the touch screen, it actually DOES navigate correctly, only manually entering and address / intersection fails. He told me it shows something like an error message.

He contacted Garmin Brazil and USA, but it did not help.

He loaded the map copying a file called gmapsupp.img to a folder on a SD card (he says it's not possible to connect it to a PC, it only has a SD card slot.

    About the map being loaded:

    The map was downloaded from
    Code:

He said he tried to load the Map both with MapSource / BaseCamp and "directly"

    Thanks in advance.

    Alan

    Hi Alan,
new devices may have problems with maps compiled with non Garmin compilers.
You can try to load Garmin South America city navigator along Mapear map in device and see if search will work.
This solved quite the same problem in Garmin Street Pilot.

You have to navigate to get to the good.

    Thanks catymag.

When you say "Garmin South America city navigator", you mean the one that must be bought directly from Garmin, which is tied to the device Serial number and so on? With this you mean it may not be possible to use the device with "custom" maps but only with the Garmin ones? Is there a free alternative?

You can find City Navigator South America on forum ( Maps Index). I'm not sure this trick will work in your friend device, but you can try.
Install CN on pc, unlock it in Basecamp with Unlock Mapsource Directory, send the img to your device with Mapinstall.
If you have problems read sticky thread about tips for new Garmin users or post again.
Let us know if it works.
