    Default To categorize waypoints

    Hello

I have way points stored in GPX file and they correctly displayed as needed. But now I would like to categorize way points like "important" and "not important" and show these categories when needed. In this case I will have 3 possibilities - show "important" only or "not important" only or both. Is it possible to manage this with Garmin device? How?

    I'm GPSMAP 64s owner.

You can use MapSource to open your GPX file with waypoints and do some editing so you can categorize them as you wish. First open MapSource open "Edit" tab - "Preferences" - "Waypoints Categories" and name the categories as you wish. Now do a right click to the waypoint you want, go to "Waypoint Properties" and select the category/ies you wish. You can edit more than one waypoint at a time. Now you ready to send the waypoints from MapSource to your device, you 'll find them categorized.

I'm using BaseCamp. And can't find feature to categorize way points there. After I have installed MapSource and did "receive from device" no way points was found in MapSource. Other data like current track was received. I was thinking that BaseCamp replaces MapSource - I'm wrong?

I have created way point in MapSources with category and have downloaded into GPSMAP64s , but I can't find where I can select category in device.

I think you can easily organize WP from tracks into separate files. You can select, cut, copy, paste, delete, etc. waypoints between files with
    Code:

    it's free.
You can manage wp by category too and store them in gps using a different symbols for each category.

You can also use Waypoint Manager in 64 and check to see them in Alphabetical order.
When the waypoint list appears, push the MENU button.
Next, select SORT and you should be presented with a choice of "Nearest" and "Alphabetical".
You MAY see a "keyboard" appear if you select the alphabetical sort, but the list should now be sorted based on the "name" of the waypoints - in alpha-numeric order. You can rename the waypoints starting with an initial "A-" for more important and "B-" for less important.

Another way to organize tracks and waypoints is using Gpsbabel and its filters:

You have to navigate to get to the good.

Using BaseCamp open your gpx file with it, right click to a waypoint and select "Open". Now choose the tab "Categories" and add the categories you wish to the waypoint, now send it to your device. You can select more than one waypoints to add the categories of your choice to them.

Make a backup of your GPX files before you start editing them.
