Default GPSMAP 620 and two bluechart maps

    Hello Everyone!
I have a quick question on my gpsmap620: basically I am trying to upload on its sd card two Bluechart maps. Both maps unlocked, uploaded individually and renamed as gmapsupp.img work but if I try to merge them with Gmaptool I get a 4.099.000 bytes (3,81 Gb) .img file and, when I copy it on the sd file, my garmin will only recognise one of the two maps (randomly). I tried to rebuild the merged file and again only one map will be recognised by the gps.
If I upload the two maps with their original file name (VU013someting.img), it won't recognise them.
Not that this is a big deal, both maps are far away from each other and I can easily rename the one I need each time, I was just looking for a way to get them both working on the sd and forget about it.
My question is....shouldn't the gpsmap 620 recognise multiple maps without renaming it gmapsupp.img? I used it "straight out of the box" without updating it through garmin express (should I anyway?). Am I doing something wrong while merging the two maps? I have followed your tutorial and seems pretty straightforward...
    Thank you!!

    M.

Sorry you can't do anything about it.
Garmin Marine units read only 1 map on a sdCard, in folder Garmin, with the name "gmapsupp.img".
Other Garmin units can read multiple maps with various names but not Marine units.

    @Momotaro
Maybe you've exceeded the map tile [segment] limit for the plotter. Automotive devices have no limit, but outdoor units certainly do. Should the limit be exceeded, the unit will arbitrarily decide what to display which seems to be what you've experienced. The total map tile limit includes the basemap as well as gmapsupp.img.

Seems unlikely so just a thought .....

    (VU013someting.img),
I can confirm BlueChart g2 Vision charts must always be used in single files in sd, Bluecharts G2 Vision are made for SDs, one per sd, you cant merge them. Merged BlueChart g2 Vision charts will never work in any Garmin marine device IMO.
As the expert wrote [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Really missing BB in these cases

Gpsmap 620 is somehow a special unit.
It has two modes, Automotive and Marine, and when you switch between these two modes the unit reboots and starts again as a Nuvi or as a Marine chartplotter.
When it is in Marine mode it follows Garmin chartplotter rules, so only 1 Bluechart map per sdCard.

Momotaro check the version your firmware and if it 3.70 or 3.60 you are OK, if it's a previous version use Webupdater or Garmin Express to update your unit.

Hello Everyone and thank you for the answers!
Got it then, I will just keep the two files on SD card and rename gmapsupp.img the one I need to use at that moment.
Software is 3.70 so everything good!
    Thanks again!!
