Have you tried dealer mode?

My problem seems to be unique from all I have read, the fact that I can't get into the GPS mode to get the 10 digit code is keeping me from even beginning the process of the threads that was mentioned to read & follow for updating maps. I think before I could ever update any map in my system is to build a thumb-drive (USB) that can be plugged into my head unit to do some sort of FLASH so my system will give me the 10 digit code or to restart from refresh the system. I have disconnected the battery for an hour and that didn't help to reset the unit.
Am I wrong or are the threads you say I have to read has that process, if it is please let me know which thread. I have read probably over 40 different related threads and they point to other threads and I am trying to follow them to drill down to give me the explanation of how to build a FLASH thumbdrive to revive or restart the GPS part of my radio to begin the process.
If it comes down to having to go to the dealer let me know, they want 150 just to flash the head unit (system) & to replace the entire radio (head-unit) is between 1500-2000 to replace it, it is out of warranty, of course. No way will I spend that kind of money, I will use my TomTom before I spend that kind of money just to get the GPS working.
If there is no fix let me know and I will move on.
Thank you for any additional help.

I did, I tried about 100 times & it never went into it. I pulled the radio out to & saw several numbers but none were 10 digit only.
