Nevermind, i forgot to set the lock. However, even when i save the boot bin from the us file, and then load it into the twn firmware and save it the gps still thinks its installing 4.50 us. And of course now that its done that it wont recognize as a msm anymore.

Oh and about half of my TTS voices don't work, i get the red lips with the X through it.

Does it boot or is it stuck on the logo splash screen? If it boots, hard reset it and then see if it's recognised in MSM. Use a Win PC directly, not a VM in Linux to test it. Even XP is fine.

EDIT: Ok, just noticed your edit about voices. Many voices for US/EN firmware won't work for Asian firmwares. You need to remove them, or replace them with the correct Asian version, or edit the TWN fw to accept the US voice version. Have a look at the Tuts Index to get some specifics.

I am no longer using the TWN firmware, it's more trouble than it's worth. What should I do to restore the voices, i did everything we did last time, took out the old twn folders and replaced them with the us folders. everything else seems to work but the voices.

Ok, so it seems by that you now have MSM working if you replaced the TWN folders with US. Remove any voice vpm files which aren't being recognised by the unit, boot it and then reconnect to PC and use WebUpdater to replace the voices and other files you want.

I will try that and get back to you.

EDIT: It's giving me any number of voices to download, unfortunately none of them are English.

That's 'Flashing firmware 1.01' mate. Always do a hard-reset both before and after a fw change, even if updating with same type, i.e. US > US. Absolutely essential if you change to Asian or back.

Ok, none of the VPM voices work. At all. Is there something else they need to be able to talk? I noticed none of hte files that don't work have a corresponding .sum file. ALso, my Text folder appears to be empty.

.sum files are just checksum files. You don't need them for a file to work, you can delete them safely. But you do need all the correct files in the Text folder, replace them from your backup before you did the Asian conversion.

None of the text files are english. I have chinese, taiwanese and malaysian. Where can I get the American, British, and Australian texts from? ALso, while the device reset to defaults, my faovrites are still there. Not the most recent one, but from a couple backups back. I thought hard reset was supposed to blow all that away?

I can get them for you from one of mine if need be. But i'm a little curious that WU didn't offer them, so are you sure you've flashed back to US properly? Also the reset should wipe your favourites so maybe you have some corruption going on. Best you make sure you actually do have US onboard before proceeding any further. Do you have your region 41 backup before you flashed to TWN? Don't try to restore it, just check that you still have it.
