Not sure if I should start a new thread, but here goes.

My 'new' Nuvi is now operating normally but has insufficient space(after some deleting)to take the new 2015 Europe map, so I figured it would put the remainder on the SD card(8Gb), but Express can not see this card, despite it being under Computer and has access. I've tried reformatting and loading the garmindevice.xml file under a Garmin folder on the card, but this isn't helping. I'm in the closing straight now to get this device FULLY functional any help appreciated.

Cliffy, Cliffy! Start without the card in the unit. When GE asks for it put it in then.

Caty & SF, GE doesn't support the older units such as StreetPilot c3x0, 26x0, 27x0. So Garmin has to keep MU & WU on the shelf for the time being. I bought a 2720 'for parts, not working' very cheap. I've got it going and guess what? It's got LM for whole of NA! So have to use MU to update it but gotta select a small sub-region or US only because of restricted internal memory and no media card slot. I agree that MU is conspicuous sometimes with newer units and i've also rolled over completely and now use it routinely [but mostly with xml on usb drive as a stunt double if i can].

I did just that, but it never asked for the card. All I get is a message about there not being enough space on the nuvi to build the map, Express uses the full 7.5Gb available. As you can imagine there is a bare minimum of files on the nuvi. This version(3.3) of Express apparently supports an additional SD card.

Update: Think I might have it. The finish is in sight.

Oh, then do this: Get a 16GB or 32GB FAT32 card, make sure it's clean. Create a folder Garmin on it then copy and paste your GarminDevice.xml from the unit into it. Ensure GE is not running in the background [minimised to the system tray] if it is exit it completely. Plug the card in a reader into the PC [you can also use a usb flash drive], start GE and it should detect the card as the nuvi and complete the update. Delete the .xml from from the card if using the same card. You can leave some files such as JCV and ASR on the card but move them into it's Garmin folder, or use another smaller card if necessary. If you have any *.srd files in the card's ASR folder they must be moved to the unit's .System/ASR folder though, leave only asr/srx files in Garmin/ASR on the card. Move everything else including the map's associated files like .gma to the unit and other files/folders as appropriate. Make sure you observe correct placement, reflect the order in the card on the unit and you won't go wrong. You can move any gupdate.gcd off the unit to a backup location on your PC too for a bit more space.

That way by using the asr/srx and jcv file on the card there should be enough space on the unit for the map. Some other minor files normally in .System will also work in the card's Garmin folder but not Voice, Vehicles etc so have them on the unit. If worst comes to worst you may have to leave the detail map and its associated files on the card in a Map folder. Even the basemap should work in the card's Map folder and the 3D building image certainly will. Experiment a little with placement and it'll all work eventually.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Downloaded the maps to the laptop. Then used Mapinstall to install them to nuvi and SD card.

Yup, that'll work for the map but doesn't get you the extras like JCV and ASR but you can dl them from here of course.

Wot link, again? Or you're asking for the link to the thread to get extras, i guess. All maps listings are in the Index: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. You'll be wanting [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] extras, so look at your unit's backup for what files it uses first. You'll also need a basemap if you haven't got one: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

These extras, do they cover many nuvi models, seems there's only a couple quoted?

Yes, they do cover many models. That's why you should look at what's in your backup and look for the updated files to replace them. For instance, your 2595 will use D3048160A.JCV for entire Europe and in your backup for your previous NTU EU map there would be a file D30481x0A.JCV [e.g. 2015.10 used D3048150A.JCV]. If it's all too hard for you, use a card or flash drive as a 'nuvi stunt-double' as i suggested before to get the correct extras via GE.
