The map if correctly unlocked should work in a Garmin root folder of microSD named gmapsupp.img. Also as anyname.img in a root folder Map of the card. [sd:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img or sd:\Map\*.img]. Run [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on your map image to ensure it's fully unlocked.

Maps do not work in Garmin folder of the unit in 2010>devices [1xxx>] Your 3590 has a hidden folder named '.System' where the name gmapsupp.img will work. If you have your PC's folder options set at it's defaults, you'll not be able to see it. Also 3590 is a MTP device and that's the default setting for the unit so it must be set to MSM [Mass Storage Mode]. Some reading for you:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [same for 2xxx, 3xxx etc]
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [ditto]
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Lots more interesting stuff in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and also check out [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Search is your friend....

    No Joy!!
The file "gmapsupp.img" was already unlocked, but, I unlocked it again then I copied it into a folder on my SD card named "Map."
I also tried the internal storage way, still no joy!

What did you name it in Map folder? [eg: cypress.img]. Did you try it as gmapsupp.img in Garmin sd folder and .System unit folder? If so, have you tried another 'known working' map? Try this one: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. It's Rarotonga, only 84KiB extracted, unlocked and definitely working. Extract directly to unit .System folder or sd Garmin folder. Troubleshooting is simply process of elimination. If Rarotonga works your Cypress map is faulty. Open it in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to check it.

Yes, solved is good. Telling us what you'd done to solve [or hadn't done right before] is better ......? I know Rarotonga works.

After trying your suggestions numerous times, I took your advice and did a "Search" with Google. I came across another web-site, were a long way down in the thread I came across the solution.
    Here's the Post;
    "My Observations
    alandb wrote:
"I believe the map naming flexibility on the newer units applies whether the map is placed in internal memory or micro SD card, as long as you put the file in the Map folder. I don't have one of these newer units to test with, so someone please correct me if this is wrong."

I tested your Map folder statement on my 2460LMT and it seems incorrect. A MAP folder on the Nuvi itself WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED (at least on my 2460).

I created a folder named "Map" in the Garmin folder and copied a map named gmapsupp.img in it.
    The map was not recognized.

I then moved the Map folder(with map) into the system folder, the 2460 did not recognize it.

Next I moved ONLY the gmapsupp.img file into the system folder, it too was not recognized.
Then I renamed the gmapsupp.img to gmapprom1.img and moved it from the System\Map folder into the System folder, then deleted the empty Map folder.
The map was now recognized. It appears at least on the 2460 model any additional maps added to the unit itself must be named gmapprom1.img.

From my experiment on the 2460, I have established a Map folder on the Nuvi will NOT be recognized.

Using that same map I copied it to my SD card to the folder Garmin\Map. I renamed the map file "CRAP.img"
    and the map WAS recognized.

So it appears that the Map folder MUST be on the SD card and you can name the map anything you want, however, on the Nuvi itself added maps must be named gmapprom1.img.

I can't say this holds true for the 1XXX series since I don't own one."

First you change the Folder options on your computer. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Then, you adjust the MTP settings to Mass Storage, on your device. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

You then place your .img file in the "hidden" System folder, and rename it to gmapprom.img, as there is already a gmapprom.img file in that folder you can rename it and add a "1" to it for example; gmapprom1.img.
As my file is only 12MB, it didn't take up much space.
If your .img file is very large you can place it on a SD card, you can call it what you like as long as it's a .img file and placed in a folder called Map, ie SD:Garmin/Map, or you can remove the original "gmapprom.img" file and save it on your computer, and add yours.
You can add as many .img files to the system folder as long as they are renamed, just add a number to "gmapprom.img."

I hope you understand this, if not feel free to ask for help.

Well, you didn't need to search in other forums. You only had to read the other link i gave you: i.e. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] which tells you the correct placement of the Map folder for anyname maps. [My 'ditto' after it in the post means that it's also 'same for 2xxx, 3xxx etc' as for the thread above it]

You quoted the poster in the other forum as writing this:
I believe the map naming flexibility on the newer units applies whether the map is placed in internal memory or micro SD card, as long as you put the file in the Map folder.

It's wrong. He only needed to place the map with 'anyname' in a ROOT folder named Map. Instead he tried in nuvi:\Garmin\Map folder with the map named gmapsupp.img. However, gmapsup1 will work in the Map [root] folder as will anyname. Have a look at the GarminDevice.xml in the Garmin folder, it gives the paths. In all units from nuvi 1xxx-3xxx this 'any-naming' of img files works, but only as unit:\Map\*.img and sd:\Map\*.img.

I own a 2460 and 2x3590s. The paths are identical.

And this is also wrong in parts:
If your .img file is very large you can place it on a SD card, you can call it what you like as long as it's a .img file and placed in a folder called Map, ie SD:Garmin/Map, or you can remove the original "gmapprom.img" file and save it on your computer, and add yours.
You can add as many .img files to the system folder as long as they are renamed, just add a number to "gmapprom.img."
Not "SD:Garmin/Map". SD:\Garmin\Map i guess is what he means, anyway that won't work. It's SD:\Map [it needs to be a root folder, same as with the unit's Map folder].
And you can't add multiple maps to the unit's .System folder by just adding more numbers than 1 to gmapprom, only gmapprom and gmapprom1 are recognised, further naming such as gmapprom2 etc will be ignored.

I hope that clears it up for you.

Believe me, I'm not having a go at you, I tried all your suggestions and none of them worked.
