this is probably a very dumb question but how do I get the CID of the maps card? i can plug the clones microsd card into my phone to get it but the maps card is a full size SD card so I cant plug it into there. it's also a 'virgin' card so it doesn't have the garmindevice.xml file.

i have an unactivated map card right now and a writable evo card. i dont see a garmindevice.xml file....am i going to have to activating my existing card first to get this file?

To view the CID of the original card can use this command: sudo cat /dev/block/mmcblk0/device/cid
On a PC/Laptop with internal SD reader and Linux, if you do not have a PC with Linux OS, you can download the iso and use Live CD without making Linux installation.

The other option is to effectively activate the SD card but first you must make a direct copy of contents into a folder on your PC and also a RAW Copy... for example with HDD RAW Copy Tool.

    Ex. UBUNTU Live CD
2 boot ubuntu live media 100262999 orig

    Success!

    Steps I took:

Read CID and create clone image of unactivated maps card
    Write CID to new card
Write cloned image to new card

Put the new card in and it worked. I hope this thing doesn't call home somehow and mess up the original card. My next step will be to create another clone and try it in another vehicle.

    Great!
Did you use HDD RAW Copy Tool?
A good test is to try to update on the Mercedes-Benz Download Manager the original card and the clone card.

Yes I used the HDD RAW copy tool. I also did not need to manually change the label, after copying the image, it was already set correctly.

I will probably not try updating the maps.....im kinda nervous after seeing the other person bricked his navi system requiring a dealer reset. The new version probably has some kind of additional security.

The manually label change was only for those using direct copy, not raw clone copy.
From what I read the problem with the updates it was only people with original SD card version with 16GB and made copies manuals for 32Gb card and then update.

I'm still waiting for my Evo + from amazon.de. I also bought two SDs locally but were the "bad" version mmc0: 59b4.

Your original card is 32GB and the raw copy was made to the Evo + 64GB? And it became only with 32GB usable?

I have a 32GB Card. I want to update with the Download Manager. Bute I received a Error: The Card is for the Registration Server invalid.

    Can anyone help me?
