    Hi guys,

Thanks for sharing. Can I ask if there is a hidden .system folder inside the SD card Garmin folder? If yes, can someone upload a screen shot of this folder?

    Hello Everyone,
I was following this thread for some time, and finally I bought the sd card, so I can share it with you:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - valid for 7 days. This was made by HDDRawCopy1.10Portable.exe for sd card with Europe maps.
The CID for this card is: 7-4-4-a-6-0-5-3-4-4-4-3-2-0-2-0-0-2-3-c-e-1-4-f-b-c-0-0-0-1-0-1
After making a copy and reading a CID for it, I putted it into my car and it worked fine. I can also upload a copy of sd card after putting it in a car. Just let me know if there is a need for that.

    Hope it will help you.
I'm also going to clone this card to come CID changeable card and I will let you know how it went.

    @adamek,
    wow, that's great.

If it would work now to change the CID, you are the KING!
But I guess that this will be a bit harder as the CID seems to be stored in an encrypted file on the SD!?

    Bye

Unfortunately, part 7 has a crc error.
Can you please re-upload the file!?

Here is a link where one could buy an SD card with a changeable CID and much more.

    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    Also came across this:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links

To avoid refback, please code all external links as per [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] #13, except download links to reputable file hosting sites. Thank you.

A couple of updates that might be interesting for some folks.

I was able to clone my own (used) card by changing the CID of the clone to the original one using [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] mentioned in other posts.
(Thanks @Uetzwurschd for pointing to this!)

This requires a Samsung EVO + (Plus) MicroSD Card. Warning! Not all of these cards are exploitable! I have tested with a couple of 32GB with a 50% success rate.
So far all 64GB card worked. I have not tested the 128GB cards (yet).

What I did do get a working clone was:

    • read original CID
    • create RAW dump of original Card
    • write CID to EVO Plus Card
    • write dump
    • Enjoy ;-)

My original card is a 16GB card which is slightly larger than normal 16GB cards. So I needed at least a 32GB Card (the Evo Plus Cards are availabe in 32/64/128).

I did some further testing and found out some interesting things.

The CID itself does not seem to matter, only the serial part!
To test this I used the original CID of the Samsung Card and ONLY changed the Product Serial Number part of the CID and wrote it to the card

(see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for more info)
This modified clone also worked and the maps were unlocked.

During my testing I also played around with the GarminDevice.xml file (I originally though I need to change the CID section there to reflect the manipulated CID), but the GPS System works even without it, so I assume its not being read at all. It seems to be used by the update software (MB Download Manager).

    Other observations

When I did a simple file copy of my original 16GB card to a 32GB card the MB download Manager offered a MAP update to the 2015 Maps (V5 I believe it was).
During this process new unlock files are generated, however they have different names than the one on virgin cards.

I am still not sure about the mechanism that detects original cards vs. copies.

My assumption at the moment is that the maps are locked to the card serial only not the the entire CID.
The CID might not be checked at all, however there is still the question how the first activation works.

There might also be checks regarding volume size and label ( so far I have not been able to use a partition larger than 16GB to test my new maps).

I feel we are making some progress, and at this stage I think it is safe to say that if you have a raw-dump + CID (or at least serial) of a virgin card the card can be cloned.

I am not sure about re-virginizing (does this word exist?) a used card. (Creating a raw dump right after activation and undelete the .unl/.gma files might be required at least).
It's also not clear to me how map updates are actually working.

@adamek thanks for your upload, did you use the MB download manager yet to update your card?
Hopefully not ;-) So maybe you could dump the activated card again and we can compare the dumps to get a better understanding of the process.

I hope this information is helpful to some people.

I will upload a activated card dubp soon. I did not use the MB manager, becouse I have the latest version of maps (Ver 6 from 2016) a there was no need. Still, I can upload the version after using MB software as well

    @adamek thank you.

@All maybe someone can use our new findings to do a little more research on moving from a 16GB card to a 32GB card.
I was not successful with this yet.
