    Hi,
any news? I found a Website that says changingnthe CID is not that hard. You need the correct sd card to change the die...

Perhaps you can have a look at it?!

    Hi,
successfully changed the CID of Samsung Evo SD Card.
Can anyone please upload the image of unused Garmin Map Pilot (Europe) (recent version)?
Will try if it works with the CID-changed SD Card.

    Thanks.

So, after all the procedure was done and after using Mercedes Benz Download Manager the tool updates to recent version with maps 2015 (Europe).
But when I installed the card in my car (w205) I get the error message "can't unlock maps" ("Karten sind nicht freigeschaltet" [german])...

Does anybody know how to solve this?!

    Thanks

So what exactly did you do?

I would assume we need to

#1 extract the original CID of the card that was dumped and
#2 changed it on the EVO card to match
#3 copy content of original card

    Is that what you did?
I have not seen any dumps with CID as most people seem to struggle with extracting it.

    Hi Stefan,
    fine, you're from Germany, too...

Ok, here's what I did in total:
I bought a used car at a Mercedes dealer. He gave me the Garmin Street Pilot SD card with version 2014...
This card was used to drive home and I saw that the maps are rather old.

Before using the Mercedes download manager, I decided to dump the card... (Raw-Image and copy of all files in structure of explorer; "double-backup")...

Afterwards, I tried to get updated maps and was disappointed as I read of the problems with the CID of the card. Because changing CID seems impossible, I researched the internet and found the site mentioned above to change the CID with the samsung sd card. This worked for me.

==> THE CID WAS CHANGED to the CID of the original mercedes benz sd card...

Afterwards, I copied all of the files that I've dumped of the original sd card to the new one and started the mercedes download manager after the copying process.
I was surprised (because I thought only the software version would be updated as it was with the original sd card, too) that the software AND MAPS were updated.

This update procedure took about 6 (!) hours and when it has finished the recent version of garmin street pilot (V 6) and the recent version of maps (V 5; 2015) were installed on the new (samsung) sd card.

Overwhelmed I went to my car to test the new maps and then I got disappointed as my car said "can't unlock maps" ("Karten sind nicht freigeschaltet")...
Got back to my computer to test what the error could be and realized that I had it wrongly formatted (FAT32)... Converted to NTFS... No change, still the same error.

Formatted the card again and used the extFAT-option. Original sd card has also extFAT. Again the same error: "Can't unlock maps" after copying all files that were on the card after update to V5-maps and V6-soft.

Also tried to use the original files before update process without change. Same error.

So, there must be something additionaly changed to get it working.
    Something like serial, CSD...

But as I found out, the serial and manufacturer id's... are "stored" in the CID...
Reading the CID after all these formatting and copying procedures showed me still the changed CID (of the original card)...

Now I ask myself the question if there are other parameters that neet to be changed...
How does the head unit check if cards are activated or not?! Does it connect via the telemetrics system to mercedes and checks?!

To say it in German: I'm at the end of my latin :-)

    Hope anybody can help...
    This can't be THAT hard...

    Bye

Can anyone please upload the image of unused and used Garmin Map Pilot (Europe) (recent version)? I will try to contribute to the common cause!

    Hi,
unfortunately, the original sd card doesn't work anymore after CID-changed and updated sd card...
    Now, any help is appreciated...
    Thanks.

    @vak
unfortunately, I only have used cards. So, I can't upload images to compare... sorry.
    Perhaps someone else can help!?

    Hi,

well I gave up a while ago as nobody seemed to be really interested. But lets restart the research.

Did you actually compare if the CID that you did read out (I guess you used a Linux box for that) matches the one in the garmindevices.xml? (e.g. <CID>744AXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX00</CID>)

And yes, you are right about the Serial, its a subset of the CID. The Serial is also coded within garmindevice.xml its coded within <Id></Id>
If you convert that to hex you should find that its starting at the 10th Byte (or 19th digit).

BTW, I found that with some SD card readers the CID was NOT read correctly, so it might be worth checking.

The method I used to read out the CID and where it was identical with the one in the garmindevice.xml was

#cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0\:e624/cid (most likely you will need to change mmc0/mmc0\:e624/ to whatever the devices is on your machine).

you can also read our the serial # with
#cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0\:e624/serial (most likely you will need to change mmc0/mmc0\:e624/ to whatever the devices is on your machine).

I did this on a Lenovo T410 Laptop with the build-in reader. I had issues with USB readers.

Anyway, I'm going to get a couple of the Samsung cards and give it a try myself in the next couple of days with a different reader.

    Hi Stefan,
    there is another strange behavior:
When I enter the (new) SD-Card my car asks if this is the card that is to be used with the specific car.
I click "yes" and after removal of the card the same question appears again.

To read the CID I compared what Linux (Ubuntu Live USB) said and what the garmindevices.xmls says... Both are identical. So, I guess there is no error when reading the CID. The reader is a build-in (HP HDX 18, 2009)...

As I read, the only way to read the CID are build-in readers as these are likely directly connected to the PCI-bus?! This is necessary as I read.

    Hmmm. Now, it gets tricky...

I want my navigation back :-)

    Bye
