Choosing less tiles in MapInstall will decrease Map Size.
This is the only way.
You need to download and Install Mapsource/PC version of the required map and also install BaseCamp on your PC.
BaseCamp automatically installs Mapinstall.

If what you are asking is how to reduce the size by editing an already compiled img file to remove some map tiles, that is simply not possible.

- get a MapSouce version of the map you wat to resize - BaseCamp and MapInstall will be automatically installed
- open BaseCamp
- insert a pendrive or SD card into your computer
- find send map to device option - MapInstall will start
- choose the tiles you need and select your pendrive as destination device
- a gmapsupp.img file with your map will be created
This sounds similar to what I do for OziExplorer, I get a map in Hi detail "jpeg" or PDF then convert to jpeg then screw the hell out of it by reducing FILE size as much as I can to a point BEFORE visual degradation then import and convert to what ever, it maybe possible to convert to .IMG "must be some how"
Just my obsolete 2Cents worth.
