    Default Oldie with Garmin EDGE Map problems

    Please bear with me, It’s been a while since I had to unlock or install any maps, so I’m a bit rusty. I recently bought a brand new Garmin Edge 1000 bundle, but was disappointed in that it only comes with a fairly basic cycle map, and no Europe CN like the cheaper Edge 810, so I wanted to put City Navigator Europe 2014.30 (which I have already installed in my Mapsource) or CN Navigator 2014.40, which I have downloaded as an unlocked IMG file. I did make sure all the maps pre-installed were enabled, but the pre-installed Cycle Map is pretty basic.

    I wanted to put the CN directly onto the MicroSD card rather than into the Edge, in case something would go wrong, so firstly I selected/dragged/sent the required maps from Mapsource using the normal method (ensuring the Mapsource was unlocked for the Edge (using the Edge unit ID, Jetmouse Garmin keygen 1.5v, which I have been using)), and sent it on its way (thru the Mapsource send to device ) to the MicroSD card, along with free Topo maps for EIRE.

    When I put the SD card into the Edge, it said the maps were locked (referring to the CN, as the EIRE Topo showed up OK), also no sight of them in the Egde's settings-‘Map select’). I then started again, erased the SD card, and tried to simply drop the unlocked Europe IMG onto the SD card (this time sending my other topo’s directly to the edge), but the Europe CN maps were still locked and not detected by the unit.

    I then decided to unlock the IMG again 9even though it was an already unlocked IMG) with ‘fast IMG unlocker’, this didn’t work with the maps still unlocked, and again further unlock a fresh copy of the IMG, this time using ‘gimgunlock’ but with also no luck.

    Any idea what I’m doing wrong, I’ve tried 2 different SD cards, a 2GB and a 32gb (as the IMG wouldn’t fit on the 2gb, I only had a 32gb as spare). I seem to recall that I have to also unlock the SD card, is this true, and if so, how do I do that? (in easy steps please)

    I’m sure the solution is buried in the forum, but it’s been a few years since I’ve dipped into it I wouldn’t know where to start.

    Many thanks

    edge 100 is a new device and probably subject to the new protection now present in other new garmin devices. No solution at present to unlock CNs for them. If you need a more comprehensive map in the interim look to OSM maps which being 3rd party should work without problem. On SD the map must be in Garmin folder named only as gmapsupp.img.

    Thanks, disappointed as I have seen the CN on the Edge 810 and they look good.
    May purchase them in the end.

    Just put the free Opensource maps for UK/IRE on the SD card, no problems, and excellent maps, so no need to shell out 90Euro on CN Europe, thanks

    Managed to get Europe 2012.20 unlocked IMG to view OK, does anyone know up to what year CN Europe the new Edge will take before the 'Lock protection' kicks in. I'm happy enough to have the 2012.20 version on but it would be nice to get as up to date mapping as possible on the edge.
    Thanks

    @EIcojo
    Probably much more useful for you to use the cycle-specific OSM based maps in a bike navigator. Advice given [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] by catymag is good for cyclists worldwide i believe. A Texas based user is very happy with the local OSM cycle map there and similar positive reports from users in AU.

    If you're using the edge in a car, then I can understand why you'd want to use a CN. Certainly unlocked 2014.40 EU doesn't work based on other reports so if you need to use a car-orientated map maybe you could try other earlier versions and report back here for others.
