    Default Garmin 3790T died

    Hello, there

I have a 3790T that was left unused for a few months.

Now, I connect it to the USB port, the display lights up, shows Garmon log and the connect icon. After disconnecting, it DOES NOT power up any more. Just sits there, dead.

Any ideas, please ? Reset of some kind, maybe ?

    Thank you.

By that i guess you mean you can see it in Windows? Battery dead, or maybe just totally flat. Lithium-ion batteries are best not left fully discharged. Leave it on charge for 24 hours to see if it revives. If it still doesn't respond to the on button you may have to replace the battery.

Keep ON/OFF button pressed for more than ten seconds.

    WOW !!

After charging for severak hours, the 3790T powerd up again !

However, it now says 37xx instead of 3790. After a malfunctioning map update, this state came up and Cathy helped me to run a procedure to restore its original properties.

I will try to find the files and run it again, to fix this.

    Thanks !

    Did not work.

I have the original files, copyied them to a clean SD, but the nuvi does not boot from the SD.

Have you tried another cleanly formatted SD
Make sure that last_id.bin and update.log are not on the SD card.
Some SD Cards work for Maps but don't work for flashing regions.

I think everything is working now

I keft out the GARMIN folder on the SD card.
    Did it again, and worked.
Will start defining route points, such as hotel, etc, for my next trip, to test everything
    Thank you

If a nuvi battery gets very flat it can cause problems such as bricking and corrupting of internal flash disk and or NVRAM.
    Rational:
The Nuvi works with Flash Memory and "much to my disgust" it is always writing to Flash Memory, It writes when it boots up, When it boots down and all the time you are using it.
This is fine when the battery is OK, When the battery is very low, the Nuvi tries to boot up but there is not enough power to keep it alive, so it dies from lack of power and tries to reboot (crash reboot).
If it happens to be writing to flash memory at the time it dies it will corrupt the flash memory.
    Moral of the story :
Charge your Nuvis that are in storage periodically.
If you take a Nuvi out of storage (flat battery) first plug it in the USB or car charger and leave it plugged in for at least an hour before booting up on battery.
Another tip to avoid corruption, Never unplug a Nuvi from USB while Express or Webupdater are active and writing to Flash.
First let the process finish and close the Application before unplugging Nuvi.

Usually devices have schematics protecting from writing to memory when voltage becomes low.
