Default Nuvi 3590 not loading maps from SD Card

My Nuvi 3590 is not loading maps from the SD Card. The Europe City Navigator is too large for the internal memory so it is split across the Garmin itself and the SD Card. A while back the map sections on the SD card became very slow to load as you drove and this caused repeated crashes of the unit.

It has got worse to the point the map sections on the SD card won't load at all.

If I plug the Nuvi into my map and launch Base Camp then connect the Nuvi to the computer Base Camp reads and displays the sections of map on the SD card. I make sure Base Campis switched to the City navigator map located on the SD card.

If I run tests on the SD card via the Nuvi connection it is all fine, if I access the SD card directly from the computer using an SD card reader everything is fine.

Just when the Nuvi 3590 is operating alone it will not load the maps from the SD Card. I've tried a factory reset on the Nuvi, re-installed maps, cleaned the contacts on the SD card but no improvement.

So in summary SD card appears OK, SD card can be read on the computer both directly and via the NUVI 3590. The Nuvi will not access SD card maps for navigation (also the maps don't show up in the "installed maps" on the Nuvi but do in Base Camp.

Anyone any ideas as to what may be the problem? Thanks.

    1) Try a different microSD card, sometime a Garmin device will get fussy about one card but will accept another with the same map without problems, even if the second SD's the same brand and size.

    2) Reformat the microSD in FAT32 and then reinstall the map on the mircoSD with MapInstall (NOT MapSource, it will give errors converting modern NT/U map data). Use the official SD Association format tool rather than the built-in Windows formatter:

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I have oredered another microSD card to see if that helps at all.

In the meanwhile I reformatted the existing card and re-installed the map using Garmin Express (the map had previously be re-installed using MapInstall) but still couldn't be read on the Nuvi.

I don't know what the signal path is on the Nuvi but when the map can be read on Garmin BaseCamp via the Nuvi it must be lifting the data off the card to send via the USB computer connection but for some reason it's own operating system isn't able to access the same data.

When the new card arrives I'll format using the SD Association tool (thanks for the link) then report back.

    Thanks
