Beddhist has a zumo 660. Try holding the clock if holding the battery symbol doesn't work, that how it's done with some older nuvis, eg 300 series..

Thanks to both of you. Neil is correct, I have a Zumo 660.

Holding the clock doesn't do anything. When I release it I get the time menu.

I can get the engineering menu alright, but as soon as I open the waterproof door it switches back to "Close the door". I have once or twice in the past succeeded booting it into normal mode with the door open, but I think a firmware update has disabled that. At least I can't get there any more.

    Regards,
    Peter.

On zumo 660 if you have latest FW then hidden menu over battery icone is still working.
Run webupdater to see if you have latest FW installed.

For preboot when nuvi start add finger in lower left corrner of screen and hold it there

If you like to have open door and connect nuvi to Pc then you must do this:

    open door
add some small magnet beside usb port on device
    connect device to pc.

    p.s.
when you add small magnet beside usb port, device think that door is closed.
If you wish, you can [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Thanks lolypop000. Yes, of course the engineering menu is accessible to me. It just doesn't stay there.

I have found an even easier method than the magnet (since I don't have one on hand): disable Garmin Lock, so I don't have to enter a PIN after turning it on. Then, as stated in the wiki, connect to the PC. Click "Eject Garmin Zumo". It then boots up normally with the door open. (This doesn't work with the PIN prompt enabled.)

Rather than using the program to disable the update message for now I have simply disabled my US map by renaming the two relevant files. We shall see whether that is enough to get rid of the msg.

    Regards,
    Peter.
