Default Helping a clueless newbie - can't install maps on my Nuvi 255w

Helping a clueless newbie - can't install maps on my Nuvi 255w

First off, I hope this is the right section. I tried following lots of tutorials, but they didnít help me.

I have a Nuvi 255w with NO maps on it.
I downloaded the City Navigator North America NT 2013.30 original untouched GMAP installation (FID/MapID = 2775) and then extracted its content to a local folder.

From now on, I have no idea on what to do next. Iím pretty sure this is already covered here on the forums, but I really donít know which tutorial I should follow (I tried a lot, I swear, maybe itís because Iím stupid or Brazilian Ė or both lol).

So if you guys could give me any directions I would really appreciate it. You donít have to write a new guide for me here, just point which I have to follow, what programs I should have/download and Iíll figure out the rest.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Best regards

Let me just say this once more: I searched a lot, I read a lot also… it’s been 3 days since I started trying to install the map on my Nuvi… this has nothing to do with being lazy, I just don’t get the stuff here cause I dunno what instructions I should be following. Once again, thanks for the comprehension and all the help.

The folder GMAP is for PC....and with the program MapSource or MapInstall, the shortcut-map send to device or SD.

You have to follow this tutorial [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    Extract:
Have you downloaded a Mapsource Gmap folder ?

    copy it in:
    (in XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps) or
    (in Vista, Windows 7 - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps)
You'll have your map in Mapsource.
    To unlock use:

    or

Or use map Locked IMG (Unlock with gimgunlock r.0.3) or Unlocked IMG....just for your device.

Thanks a lot for your help and fast reply; I got the MapSource to finally open the map I downloaded (I had no idea until now I had to extract it to a specific folder). I'll try to follow those guides now and if something comes up I'll ask here once again.

    BIG THANKS!

Wow, you are just so great. Thanks a lot once again. Now I guess I will be able to finish it on my own! hahahaha
One "final" question (not sure if other may come up later lol): I saw this video tutorial available on one of the links of your first reply... I can select just a small amount of the map I want? Like... just one state? Will that really work? MANY, MANY THANKS!

I wish I had 100 "thank you" or "like" buttons so I could click them that much.
I got it all and my GPS is now working like a charm. One final question - I guess this is not the place, but whatever: where can I find and download the POI for Orlando/FL?
