    Default Garmin 1390 Update problems!

Hi, I have a Garmin Nuvi 1390 device.

I intend to update the firmware through the Garmin Webupdater.

After the programa found an update, i Tried to update, but at the end I received this message:

"There is not enough free disk space on nuvi 1390. Please free up some space and try again"

    What can I do?

I never change the original firmware, and always use the maps on the SD card....

So what I have to do?

    Thanks in advance.

It's almost impossible for a 13xx to get full like that.
I would suspect that at some stage the Nuvi was connected to a computer that had a nasty virus that has placed additional files into the device.
Usually these files are hidden and system. If you can find these hidden files sometimes using the command. attrib -h -s -r -a will reset the file so that you can delete it.
Make a full backup including the hidden .System folder before deleting any files.

    Problem solved!

I followed catymag suggestions above and erase some useless data (voice languagues and text files), and was able to perform the update.

Now I have 50mb of free storage.

If you have all map in SD then look at .System folder if you have there old CN map.

What do you have when you look at tools/settings/Map/about map

Do you have here two version of CN?

I suspect this problem only occurs with no space on unit because the new fw is written temporarily to open memory and then on the next start up the existing firmware is overwritten on the protected memory. I doubt it would happen if the sd card method was used for fw update. I might fill up the internal memory of one of my units to test that theory using GUPDATE from sd.

Umm, I thought Loly would have been smack-on about the old oem map/s in .system in all probability. Either that or there is a huge 'found' folder full of CHK files from a failed map update in the past. I agree with dasilvarsa, it's almost impossible to fill up the 2 GB internal memory of 13xx if you have only the basemap in .system.

Gustavo_bl, you should look at the above possibilities. If you can't see the .system folder on your 1390 when connected to your computer, do this: In Windows Explorer, click 'Tools' > 'Folder Options' > 'View'. Under 'Hidden files and folders' select 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' then uncheck both 'Hide extensions for known files types' and 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)', then click "Apply to Folders" (if not greyed out) > Apply > OK. That's for Win 7, it's much the same in XP i think.
