Does anyone have a MapInstall software. I used it to install all the gmap folder and other mapsource maps, with this. I just had to copy the map folder in in that C:\program data\ garmin\maps. And also have a Micro SD or ur device (it only saves in this device). Just run the map install and in 5-10 mins u'll have a .img file in your device. And u can use FIU. It was very simple.

    Default MapInstall software

    @rams1984

Use Garmin official link for MapInstall software:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links

After installation of genuine Garmin MapInstall you might want the patched variant and replace the MapInstall EXE-file. This patched version can create gmapsupp.img files for maps with GMA protection (MapID/FID >= 2200) even if you don't have the GMA-file.

This is what you use: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
This is how you do it: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
This will explain more: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]...Scroll down to: 'Have you downloaded a Mapsource map version?' and 'Have you downloaded a Mapsource Gmap folder ?'

All that and more is in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Basecamp will not let you select map regions.

Basecamp requires Mapinstall in order to select map regions and you then are selecting in a tiny window with a deficient GUI.

Mapinstall will not send a mapset to a hard drive partition and requires some SD card to be plugged in to send the mapset to.

Basecamp has some nice features but takes two steps forward but also one step backwards at the same time.

Basecamp can't process Blue Charts and need another separate program called Homeport.

Mapsource is a nice all in one program so we don't have to install multiple programs.

To answer part of the OP's question:

When you install a map onto Mapsource, it creates a directory structure with XML, MDX, TRF files plus many other directories in the Garmin folder of your hard drive..

You can load a *.img file into MS using [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to create a preview map, suitable only for viewing. You won't have full search functions so it's useless for your GPS though.
With MIDs less than 2200, you can use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], or you can just use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to unlock without an unlock code.

For naming and copying the map image to your unit, see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and maybe read up on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and some more here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Edit: Sorry Caty, again you posted while i was fluffing around.

Do I always have to use mapsource to create a gmapsupp.img file that I can transfer to my device? Or can it straight away be done in basecamp?
