Or your map isnt unlocked,or the name of the map is wrong,or you havent copied in the right place.
Hi,
This is my first posting at this forum and I hope to find solution for my problem. So far, this great forum helped a lot but I have now this problem. My GPS use to hang on "Loading maps", after few research I used garmin cure to install the right fw and have it started. for some stupid reason I deleted the gpmapprom.img, gpmaprom.unl, and the sw.unl. When the device started and after getting into the EULA, I pressed "Agree" and here I am stuck with the error message "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them". If I keep pressing on the error I am succefully in but when going to maps the "Map Info" button is greyed out. I added Canada-Alaska unlocked map but still the same issue. The basemap is there.
Can you help me on how to fix this issue.
Thanks
Goldfinsh

You have to navigate to get to the good.

Catymag, the map I put is Canada Alaska 2012.30 and I am already using it on a 255 and already tested it on Garmin XT. I named it on both 255 and XT as gmapprom.img and gmasupp.img and it worked. But on the 255W, it fails. I found on other forums that Garmin must produce a .unl for it, but I need to register the device which I cannot because it is used and is already registered by the old owner and have no idesa what is the username and password. I added the map in the Garmin folder. Any thoughts?
If the map is unlocked it doesnt need any .unl file, check it's unlocked with Gmaptool
.IMGs in your device should go in root as shown here

Better you use these kind of maps in sd, so you can remove the card if something goes wrong.
In sd copy the gmapsupp.img in a Garmin folder

Question 1: Do you have a receipt showing that this unit was purchased?
Question 2: Are you able to get a hold of the original owner?
If you can answer "yes" to either or both of these questions, then you should be able to get the unit registered in your name. In many cases Garmin will reset the registration if it can be shown that the unit was purchased. If you can get a hold of the original owner (the best option) you can get that person to deregister the unit in order to register it yourself. Otherwise you have to play around with Fast IMG Unlocker to get the maps unlocked so they will function on your unit, since you normally cannot transfer maps between units because of the unlock code requirement.
Hi, the map is unlocked and I am still getting that popup message. I also have the same structure but I do not have the .unl file for gmapsupp.
Unfortunately I have no receipt. The owner is a friend of mine who bought it a year ago from kijiji for $75. He used it until it stopped loading maps and I cure it. BTW, I sent an email to Garmin and still waiting. I unlocked the unclocked image with Fast IMG unlocker but no luck
As Caty stated, you don't need the*.unl file for an unlocked image.
To definately eliminate the possibility of any problem with your Canada/Alaska map image, have you tried a different map? If not, why not download any from the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and see. There's plenty of images both locked & unlocked available. At least it will tell you for sure if you have a general problem.Unfortunately I have no receipt. The owner is a friend of mine who bought it a year ago from kijiji for $75. @goldfinch
Could it be a possible Wrong Firmware Problem ?
Have you tried to reload Firmware on the unit ? The Cure normally disables .IMG file extension.
Are you sure the .img is gmapsupp.img and not gmapsupp.img.img? Enable hidden estensions in Windows to check it.
As said ,if the map is unlocked with last version of FIU (previous ones can fail), it's correctly named gmapsupp.img and copied in Nuvi root internal memory ( not in a Garmin folder) , Nuvi will see it.
Can you post a screen of your Nuvi with files extensions enabled ? please
PS: as said in the post above mine, after loading a cure you must reflash the normal firmware in Nuvi or it wouldnt see any IMGs ,coz the cure is made for that: not to load wrong problematic IMGs -
