put it in a Map folder in internal memory or in sd, rename it anyname.img
Hello:
My 3790T does not detect a pre-unlocked map img file. Either on the SD card or on the main unit memory. I can confirm that the map is in fact unlocked because it is detected and works fine in a 265 and and 765 unit. But the same img is completely ignored by the 3790T.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have to navigate to get to the good.

Thank you for your reply catymag.
I tried that already. I created a folder called Map on the SD card and placed the map img in the folder. I also tried creating a folder named "garmin" and put the img file in that. In both cases, the 3790t behaves as if it is not there. On the main memory of the unit, I transferred the img file as gmapsupp.img into the hidden folder ".system". Again the 3790t does not see the map.

you must create a Map folder in the internal memory and rename the map as anyname.img but not gmapsupp.img. It wont see it in .System .
Map folder in sd mustnt be in Garmin folder but in root folder, if 3790 doesnt see it it's locked.
Right paths and naming in 37xx and other new Nuvi devices example:
Nuvi root/Map/CNE.img
SD/Map/CNE.img
SD/Garmin/gmapsupp.img (just one map in Garmin folder can be seen by nuvi in 3790)
If any of these work ,the map is locked, check your .img with GmapTool, drag it in GmapTool and check the log-

thanks again, catymag.
I tried your suggestions. the 3790 still does not see the map. But the strange thing is, the same map image worked fine in 265 and 765 units. If it is locked, then it should not have worked at all.
Hi hijaker..,
Did you try to do a hard reset ?

Hi catymag. I am sorry it took so long to reply. I lost my internet connection. It wasn't restored until a few days ago.
Yes, I do have another map covering mostly the same (but not 100% identical) region. It is the original 2011 map that came with the unit in the .system hidden folder. The newer unlocked (2012) map I placed in a folder "map" in the root directory of either the GPS itself or the SD card.
I read some where that if you remove the original map on the 3790T, then voice command would stop working. I don't know if it is true. But I figure, since there is enough room to keep both maps, I would just leave it be, and uncheck the older map within Garmin under settings. Should I have deleted the original map from the .system folder?
You cant have two routable maps covering the same region, nuvi wont see one of them, deselect one or ,better ,delete one.
Deleting the preloaded map wont give any issue , backup it on pc the old one along .unl and .gma files and delete, unlock and rename the new one like the previous one and copy it to the same place. But i donnow which map are you talking about and which additional files you need to make it working fine.
Take a look at this thread

Every CN eg. has its own additional files to copy in the right path, you can take a look at device.xml in Garmin folder to figure it out.
