How to reset Garmin 765T

I am having two issues with my garmin:-

1) The search feature has a long lag and map updates/recalculation seems to take longer than it used to when I bought it
2) The touch pad at times does not read the button I am trying to press (very frustrating)

Due to the issue no. 2, I cannot seem to get the hard reset (simultaneously pressing power on button and lower bottom right hand corner). Any other options?

Edit:
Just tried it on my own nüvi 765T. It works, but in step 3 you have to move the power switch to the "locked" position before the splash screen appears. So while the screen is still black! If you get a message telling you the screen is locked, you've been too slow.
