Thanks in advance for any help you might give me. I have a GPSMAP 496 that I love in every way except one. The internal memory (approx 1.2gb according to Garmin) is not accessible through mapsource or mapinstall. Currently the unit has a combination of flight data and CN loaded on the memory. I would like to be able to use this memory as I wish. Garmin will allow access to it if i download new maps from their site. I can see the unit connected via USB on my system, just can't access it. Any ideas?

Thanks. The problem I worry about using that is I don't know how the flight info is labled in the unit. If any of it is gmapprom than I'll wipe it out. Maybe use gmapprom1.img?
Probably name of img is not important but the option rgn=49. I'm guessing that rgn describe part of internal flash in your device. But once again - it is a guess only.
I think that would be REGION49, meaning the lower 49 states. I think it needs to be changed depending on the # of regions you're trying to load.
I have an old C510 that I don't mind bricking. I'll give this a shot and see how it works, I don't want to hurt the 496 if I can avoid it. I sold my Zumo and I'm getting ready to sell my 2820, just to go old school with the 496. In my opinion it routes better than anything, especially when I use it on my KTM.
Kanopus assumption is the right one. rgn=49 is region 49 of the memory of the unit. Name not important. No connection with the lower 49 states. Aviation data should be on different region. Yes, I am not sure is region 49 a correct one for that unit. May be it could brick the unit. May be, may be... Don't know is c510 a good example. If I am not mistaken it uses flash memory where can easily be entered in USB Mass Storage Mode.
P.P.:...you should make dump from that region (if possible) to be sure that this one is the correct one...gpsdaemon...0x31...DSKIMG...and again responsibility is yours...
I understand the responsibilty, don't worry. I have a 2610 as well that has a basemap on internal memory, CF card for map storage. Maybe it's the better one to try vs the 510?
I know it seems confusing at first glance. But try that program before doing anything.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
You're right! It is confusing! I'll see what I can make of it. Thanks.
