I'm curious, how about installing CN Map as GMAPSUPP.IMG because CN Navigator Indonesia image can not detect by MapInstall (GMAPPROM.IMG from NavNet)?
And using post #3 will erase all map in my SP2720 or GMAPPROM only ?

Using the bat file command method in Post #3 only replaces your primary detail map [gmapprom.img] in region 49.

MapInstall does not detect maps on the unit, only BaseCamp can do that provided the MS Flag is '0' as said before. If you have generated an image to a card or USB stick from MapSource or MapInstall with the intention of renaming the image from gmapsupp to gmapprom before transferring it to the SP using the bat file method, you have the opportunity to change it to '0' at that point. Once it is on the unit you cannot change it. Similarly, if you use MS or MI to transfer a secondary detail map directly to the unit as gmapsupp it will have a flag of '1'. The way around that is to also first generate the map to a usb and change the flag before transferring it to the unit via SendMap20. Regardless of where you source the image from, compiled yourself or downloaded, it's necessary to check the MS Flag before putting it on the unit if you want BC to see it that way.

If you wish to erase gmapsupp you can do that with SendMap20. You could also overwrite it with a single small tile from MS or MI so it's only a very mall size map. I don't know if you can simply erase gmapprom although i haven't given it any thought, as i don't see a need to do that anyway because you would always want to replace the primary detail map for sure anyway.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I had try to joint Navnet gmapprom.img with those DEM img with GMAPTool and insert them to SP2720 as post #3, but no luck it show nothing just base map
So this SP2720 did not support 3D view

    Hi guys,

a bit of post resurrection with this, but I am having issues with re-doing the detailmap on my Quest.

Whenever I try to upload the gmapprom.img file to my Quest 2 via the DOS command prompt, I get this error:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

It would seem the unit thinks the T4A map is loaded when in fact it is not - how do I get rid of this?

Here's the complete procedure so someone other can benefit and update his 2720. Credit go to blankman on the gpspassion forum. I've edited his tutorial.

Before doing this I inform you that I've downloaded the West & Central Europe NT 2011.32 Img Unlocked 1.75GB For 2GB SD from a Kor@l and then I've followed this procedure

    1. Connect the 2720 with the USB Cable
    2. Copy the gmapsupp.img (unlocked) that you've just downloaded in the C:\Garmin folder
    3. Rename gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img
    4. Check to see if a WebUpdater folder is inside the C:\Garmin folder. I don't have it inside so I've copied the WebUpdater folder in the C:\Garmin folder
    5. Create a new notepad document and paste this text in it

    C:\Garmin\WebUpdater\WebUpdater.exe /upload_file rgn=49 path=C:\Garmin\gmapprom.img -autorun usb /i

    6. Save this text file with a name you want but, IMPORTANT, with the .bat extension. Mine was named 2720update.bat
    7. When you double-click the SP2720_Update.BAT file, a command-line window should open up on your Desktop, plus WebUpdater should open and report that it's erasing your old maps and copying your new mapset into your SP2720. It will show you a "percent complete" indication as it goes along. When it's complete, WebUpdater will end and close the command-line window with it, at which point, your SP2720 will now have a fresh set of maps.

I've credited the two people where I've downloaded the unlocked img and where I've found the instructions. Thanks again Catymag...

It would seem I have managed to resolve the issue:

    . I downloaded MapUpload from
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
. I ran it to upload the gmapprom.img file to the unit, and there weren't any error messages or complaints.

. When it was done, there were two Garmin mapsets present (2012 & 2013)

. I re-ran the WebUpdater via the command line

. There is now only one Garmin mapset, the 2013 one (which is how I wanted it to be)

. I will transfer the T4A mapset later

Getting the same error from WebUpdater as “Naks” I wonder: Does the MapUpload program access the hidden memory in SP 2720?
Trying to upload 1.9GB with MapUpload on a W7 64bit-machine stops because on “not memory enogh”. MapUpload reports 672100 kB available.

G'day gelun, welcome to GPS Power.

SP2720 has about 1.7GiB total usable internal memory i think. 672,100KB is way short of the 1.9GB you're trying to upload and even if you clear everything else off it's still not going to fit on there if i'm correct in recalling 1.7GiB and anyway maps are flashed to 'regions' which also have limited size which can't be exceeded regardless: Primary map to region 49 [hex 31] and supplementary map to region 10 [hex 0A], they seem to share flash memory space and i think it's a maximum of 1.1GiB if i recall correctly. Also an oem map can be flashed to region 50 [really tiny only 1MiB]. So, you'll need to reduce the size of the map to less than 1.1GiB even if you remove any other detail map.

Thanks Neil for the information about Garmin StreetPilot 2720.
Found that post #3 from “ultrasheer” in this thread explains it all.
Creating .img-files with Mapsource and then proceeding with the WebUpdater-script in #3 shows that a file size of 1 815 168 kB fails while 1 796 064 kB works fine. After that both Mapsource and MapUpload(freware from wwwDOTmapwelDOTnet) reports Total Memory = 1 799 256 kB and 13-13.5 MB free space. MegaByte! Not much”
Testing with a new small, 10.5 MB, .img.file with script as in #3 will erase everything in SP2720 and now Mapsource can move the large area into the 2720.
Seems to me that WebUpdater.exe can unconditionally overwrite maps already in the 2720 while Mapsource/MapUpload can not.
    /Gustav

Best don't use MapSource for compiling .img files from modern CN gmap folders, it's better to use MapInstall exclusively for that or you may get routing errors, even crashing of the unit.

You can simply erase the supplementary map in region 10 [gmapsupp.img] with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] which will also free up space in region 49 [gmapprom.img] because regions 10 & 49 share space. That way you don't even need to flash a tiny map to rgn10 to overwrite any existing larger supplementary map.

Your last sentence is 'sort of' correct. Because of the space sharing by regions 10 & 49, there are limitations inflicted on one by the other. Reducing the size of the primary map as you did by flashing the 10.5MB map allows a bigger supp map and conversely erasing or reducing the supp map allows a bigger primary map. WebUpdater writes to rgn49 and MapSource/MapInstall/SendMap etc write to rgn10. Another thread of possible interest to you: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - also works for rgn49 with SP2720.
