Default Bluechart g2 and oregon question

    Hey everyone,
Posted a few days ago regarding bluechart g2's for the gpsmaps and oregon. So here's my progress. The maps work great on the 520, but I couldn't get them on the oregon as I had chosen the download from garmin on my own sd. They have a legit unlock code but my guess was that it was device specific. Found my mapid to be 2012. Ran an unlock program, popped it on the oregon and the maps came up.My issue is that they don't show depths like they do in homeport or on the 520. Any ideas on this? I thought I could not unlock them, but rather generate a serial via map id and my device id, but nope wouldn't work...

Did you zoom in pretty tight on the Oregon ?

My Oregon 400 will not show the depths until I'm zoomed in pretty tight. I don't have my Oregoin with me right now, so I can't say what the zoom level is, but I can check later.

    as said by pm
from garmin FAQ: Question: Is my Garmin Marine Device capable of displaying Safety Shading and/or Fishing Charts?
*Compatible handheld devices (i.e. Colorado, Oregon, Dakota, etc...) are excluded from this criteria and are not compatible with either Safety Shading or Fishing Charts.

some descriptions from the same answer: Safety Shading is a feature offered in both BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision products. This feature allows a user to enable contour shading for all depth contours shallower than user-defined safe depth. Fishing Charts is a feature offered in both Bluechart g2 and g2 Vision products as well. Fishing Charts aid in viewing the bottom contours and depth soundings with less visual clutter on the display.

in Setup -> Marine -> Chart Mode, Appearance, Alarm Settings then Chart Mode -> Off, Nautical, Fishing and Appearance -> Spot Soundings -> On, Off spot soundings are points with sea depth. they are visible only in Nautical mode

•Realistic navigation features show everything from shaded depth contours and coastlines to spot soundings, navaids, port plans, wrecks, obstructions, intertidal zones, restricted areas and IALA symbols.
•Fishing charts focus on bathymetric contours with less clutter on the display

I have an Oregon 400 and have some g2 Bluecharts loaded and there are spot soundings (depths) displayed on my Oregon 400.

as a follow-up with help from caty when under the marine profile, the nautical setup will display spot soundings and the fishing setup will not (despite them being set to on for this mode). So I didn't find a difference in the maps from fishing to nautical, so I'll keep them nautical to show the depths and have the same contours listed as there are in fishing mode. Why wouldn't they do the same for fishing? doesn't make sense.

    Xtracrispy69,

Are you using g2 Bluecharts "VISION" or regular g2 Bluecharts on your Oregon 400 ?
