Smile Need help updating maps on nuvi 265w

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265 with City Navigator Europe NT 2009 pre installed.

I have downloaded ''City Navigator Europe NT – UK + Ireland 2011'' map and now I am left with an unlocked gmapsupp.img file (191mb) I have tryed copying the .img file over but do not have enough free memory. If I got an SD Card and put the .img file on to this would my Garmin read it?

Thanks for any help I do not have a clue what I'm doing

Backup the old one on pc, delete it and and put the new one in an sd ,rename it gmapsupp.img and put it in a Garmin directory. Usually just one gmapsupp per sd is supported, but new devices can see more than one- You can merge two maps with gmaptool-

Delete the old one coz you cant have 2 routable maps covering the same region-

Thanks for the quick reply Is there a utility that backs it up or do I just copy and paste?

Also would I be better off just replacing the City Navigator Europe NT 2009 with the City Navigator Europe 2011 map on the unit instead of buying an SD card for the UK & Ireland map? The internal memory is 2GB.

Yes, just copying would be enough for backup

Yes, you can replace if it will fit on your device, but I think you will be jut few MB short with complete CN EU 2011 (you can try)
