Default TomTom Go 750 touch screen not working

    Hi all,

Yesterday I tried to connect my device to my computer. I did not have the right cable to connect the device to the computer, so I soldered the 4 usb wires to the 20 pin port. On my screen of the TomTom came the screen with "Would you like to connect....". But the computer did not recognize the device.

After that I removed the wires and put the TomTom back together, now the touch screen is not working anymore. I can not click on "I agree" on the first screen. Also when I boot the device, I see short the loading screen (green) with a CD (seems like the screen when you see after connecting to the computer). So it look likes the device is bricked/freezed.

Could someone help me to solve this problem? I also did a reset with holding the power button.

    Edit:
I put the TomTom in the car dock with a usb to the computer, this worked, but I can not click on "No" or "Yes" in the "Do you want to connect to Computer?" screen. I tried to add calib.txt to the root of my device, but the numbers of the calib. stays the same. Why is the calibration nog changing to the numbers I put in the txt file?

    Thanks in advance!

wasn't it easier to buy Chinese cable worth 1-2$???

Now how do you will know what's faulty? Change touchscreen? (several backs). Try to look at it from sharp angle - if you'll see net on the screen - touchscreen is broken. If not - maybe you've shorten some circuits inside MB - doubt it worth repair...

What do you mean by 'seeing a net'? I check all the connections on the touch screen with the flex cable and all have continuity, so I can assume the flex is not ripped or something like that.

And what is the point of damaging your own device personally and asking for help in a forum like this?
Sincerely hates me to explain what you did.
I wrote you what to do. Shortest.

Colleague rusigir gave you the probably most precise explanation:

And buy "net" (on the screen) he mean: mesh (or web, or...).

It is not that I damaged the device with purpose. Yes, I know it was not smart to solder on the wires to the dock port, but I can not change that now. The reason why I am posting this on the forum is that I want to learn what I did wrong and maybe how to fix the problem.

OT: Could I short components on the MB with touchting only the dock connector?

Of course you didn't do it with the intention of damaging it. But...

    Theoretically - yes
If you have so much static electricity on your fingers/"soldering iron" that it can damage them.

Practically - I have touched such connectors a million times and there were no consequences. So - hardly.
But - one of the USB wires carries a voltage of 5V, so...current probably went where it shouldn't.

I also check the 8 pins on the flex from the lcd, and there are no faults or something.

So I think there is a shiort somewhere what is causing the touch not to work.

    @uas,

Do not understand why you would even take the TomTom apart.

First you would need cold solder for any electronic units.
Using std solder will ruin any items in the TomTom.
That is why you need to use cold solder plus you need to know what you are doing.

Second see that you tried this on a Sunday when stores are closed.
Why didn't you wait till today and get the correct cable.
    or
Ask a neighbor if they have the cable you need.

I find it very reckless on your part to try and take the TomTom apart and solder cables to it.

Then you go and get the car dock with a USB to the computer.

So you had a correct cable all a long.

But sorry to say you fried correspondent to the screen already.

Like Boki_Srb said buy a new one and learn from your mistakes.

It was indeed not very convenient, but whoever claims to never have demolished anything himself, while that is not the intention, must still be born.

Turn over your piggy bank and try it with the following solution.
It is a few weeks waiting, but you still have nothing to do at the moment.
And if it still doesn't work, then maybe look for a motherboard
