Default Unlocking for Editing in GPSMapEdit?

    Are purchased maps encrypted?

I read about some tools that have options to XOR the map file. Is that how Garmin devices protect map files?

Purchased garmin maps are locked to a device or a unit. To unlock a map u need a unlocker or a keygen. Both can be found in this forum.

To unlock a garmin map and decompile it with MapEdit you need an unlocker:

Don't forget that MapEdit only supports decompiling of non-NT Garmin maps.

Don't find it as a good idea but ok...You should search for non-NT maps for the region you want to decompile them with MapEdit. You can start from the section with Garmin Maps

As I remember ME supports a few of the marine elements of the Blu Chart Maps. I think it is possible to be added more elements...but doubt its going to worth the effort. If you want you can ask in the thread for ME maybe someone more familiar may help/or someone already had done it.

In general I think using Homeport and making screen images of the opened map may do the job. Then you need to stick the parts and calibrate the image. Then over it to draw the paths. Sounds simple but its a lot of work and depends also on the area covered.
