Default Newbie needs help unlocking an img file

Hi guys. I downloaded a garmin img file for US inland lakes. I also downloaded the gimgunlock program and followed the instructions for unlocking (on a Mac - open the terminal window, then drag and drop the icon for the unlock program and the icon for the img file into it, then hit return). It ran the file but didn't create a new unlocked file - not sure if this is normal - just the same img file sitting there on my desktop. I created a folder named Garmin on my sd card and put the file in the folder. I plugged the card into my GPS (gpsmap 441s) but the unit didn't seem to see it as it made no difference on my maps. What did I do wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated!

To see if the map has been unlocked you can use GmapTool, you can find a version for mac too in author's site.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    Map path must be: SD/Garmin/gmapsupp.img

You have to navigate to get to the good.

catymag - first, thank you for moving this to the appropriate section. Second, ok I downloaded gmaptool (for a pc, the Mac version said it was experimental and the author wasn't really sure if it worked or not). So how do I check (on my pc) to see if my file is unlocked, and what exactly did you mean the path must be SD/Garmin/gmapsupp.img? I'm starting to see I have a lot to learn here.

I tested Gmaptool in my Lion in VMware and worked fine.

Open Gmaptool ,import the img in it's main window and click Details tab.
If it's locked, you'll see something like this in its log:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
.img naming must be correct and path too.
