Default Nuvi: Move Files & Make map Files smaller

I have a Nuvi 855 and I have two questions regarding storage space on the GPS:

    1. Has anyone had any success with putting the JCV & ASR files a JCV & ASR in the Garmin folder on the SD card of do they have to be in the Garmin folder of the GPS. I thought I would ask first before I try it myself.

    2. The new mapset files issued by Garmin appear to be growing in size at a rapid rate. Some this appears to be because they are adding large quantities of POIs instead of actual increase in geophysical data. I don't really want to know where every new McDonalds is located. Are there any utilities available that will allow you to clean out this perhaps useless data and make the mapset files smaller?

Any help or comments are always appreciated.
