    Data quality

    Lineage:
    Data for the Contours, Offshore, and Sand ridge layers was captured from 1:2.5 million scale mapping by scanning stable base photographic film positives of the original map production material. The key source material for Built-up areas, Drainage, Spot heights, Framework, Localities, Rail tranport, Road transport and Waterbodies layers was GEODATA TOP 2.5M 2003.

    Positional accuracy:
    GEODATA 2.5M 2003 data comply with the following statement of planimetric accuracy: `Not more than 10% of well-defined points are in error by more than 1400 metres?.
    Attribute accuracy:
    For this product, attribute accuracy is a measure of the degree to which the attribute values of a feature agree with the information on the source material. The allowable error in attribute accuracy ranges between 0% and 5%. Where less than 1% of errors are permissible, the entire population is tested. A full description of the checks on the data, the test sample size and the allowable error are provided in the product user guide of GEODATA TOPO 2.5M 2003.

    Logical Consistency:
    Logical consistency is a measure of the degree to which the data complies with the technical specification. The data was tested using a mixture of ArcInfo and UNIX programs. This included checking of the naming of tables and files and graphical tests to check intersections, polygon closures, and minimum size of polygons and topological relationships.
    Completeness:
    All instances of a feature and its attribute values that appear on the source material are captured unless otherwise indicated. The completeness was tested by assessing the data against the supplied and quoted source material, carrying out visual comparisons and data comparisons as required






    Using GPSMapEdit, cgpsmapper and SendMap used convert to Garmin img here is what I do:

    1. Using GPSMapEdit File ... Import to load a shapefile
    Make sure it is not too large (I break my state up into our 17 regions and process each one separately - the will be put back together later)
    2. select how you want the data to look, select the field for the label, OK ,OK
    3. Open File ... Map Properties and set the Units, Datum and give the file a unique ID
    4. Click on Levels tab - this can be a bit tricky so you need to experiemnt with what works for your data. Basically you need the levels in ascending oder (usually I use 2 or 3 levels)
    5. Click cGPSMapper tab. For larger files I make the TRE size 1000 and the RGN Limit 1000, S in the Map is Transparent box
    6. Click Apply .. Ok
    Don't worry if the features disappear!! that is because of the zoom levels you chose
    7. Save in Polish format (*.mp)
    8. File .. Export to Garmin IMG/cgpsmapper.exe
    9. name the file (*.img) click Save
    10. click run
    11. the .img file is created
    12. File .. Close
    13. repeat for all your data
    14. open Sendmap and add all the .img files you just created (this assembles them into a single file)
    15. Click Create GMAPSUPP.IMG (you can name it anything here but it must be renamed to GMAPSUPP.IMG for Garmin devices to recognise it)
    16. Copy the GMAPSUPP.IMG file to \Garmin folder on an SD card.


    Once I select Garmin IMG/cgpsmapper EXE I just accept the default (I did test with a different name and it worked fine) and click Save. Then the cgpsmapper export dialogue opens up and you have to click on Run. You should see messages appearing in this dialogue box.

    Make sure the Path to cGPSmapper.exe is set correctly (at the top of the dialogue).

    Install the card in the device and the data is available (depending on the settings you used you may have to zoom in to around 200 - 300 metres to see it)

    In case of above links, these are topographic data for scale/resolution 1:10 millions and 1:2.5 millions.
