    Default Sending map error message.

    Hi @all,
My device is Garmin GPSmap 60c and I m using it for 10 years. The set of maps (Greek Anavasis) loaded to my device via mapsource.
I m trying to edit IMG files for add unpaved roads from track logs and create points from my waypoints, using GPSMapEdit & Cgpsmapper for export.
Everything works fine to Mapsource 6.16.3 (new roads and routing), but I cant send the new IMG files to my device.
I take this crazy error message from Mapsource :
"The map set is approximately 0,7MB but only 56MB is available in the destination. Please select a fewer maps and try again."

Any idea whats going wrong? Any suggestions for editing IMG files using different program than GPSMapEdit.

    thanks.

Strange Error Message: Not Enough Space
With a custom map that I downloaded (Desert Tracks), MapSource gave me a strange error message. Apparently, there wasn't enough space on my 8GB card for a tiny 3MB map! If you use Mapsource, you will see this message regularly:

"This mapset is approximately xx MB, but only yy MB is available in the destination. Please select fewer maps and try again."

Typically, xx is very small and yy is very large. After you get the hang of it, you start to appreciate the humor of Garmin software engineers. So I gave up trying to transfer to the unit. Instead, I asked MapSource to transfer the mapset to a USB key, then I took the img file from the key and copied it to the GPS. It worked fine. I also tried to ask Mapsource to transfer the mapset to an SD card plugged into the laptop. It worked too.

It looks a nice workaround for this bug

It is typical error in mapsource when map have a wrong tdb file. I think that you modified a img but did not refresh a tdb file. Try copy only a img and typ files to new folder and then generate new mapsource kit with Gmaptool.

There is no way to edit garmin img files. The one you are doing with MapEdit is called "decompiling". Keep a few things about that:

    1. In general "decompiling" garmin img files is illegal! (This is "the real stealing" not unlocking the maps! But this one is a long story and not everyone understand that corretly IMHO...)
    2. When decompiling a garmin img map using MapEdit there is loss of information. There is also loss of information when compiling too. So it is becoming mess times two. Just like making a copy of the copy etc.

Suggestion: Try building a transparent map with higher draw priority and use both maps together.

    Cheers,

The perverse method is recompilation of one map again and again. As Russian and Uzbekistan JSC of Navicom do!
If you use original polish text source and then only add new data or edit old it will the beautiful way always. A transparent map give only new details but do not correct the old. ddabcd277, work you for Navicom? It is familiar stile of map drawing from this company. In some place we have on Russian map a three road (one from 19 century, another from 20 century, and last from 21 century). All are routable. It is very interesting to know what centuries-old trees grown on historic trade route.
No doubt small errors will took place but it is not such critical in case of topo map. Moreover this errors give more precision position sometimes due to random compensations.
