I wanted to pop over here and see if anyone needs my help!

I still have my original threads UPDATED with the 2016.20 file names over at the following links:

    HOW TO: Map Update on Uconnect CTP11 & CTP12 (2011 - 2012)
    Spoiler: link
    Code:

HOW TO: Map Update on Uconnect CTP13+ (2013 - 2014)
    Spoiler: link

Again, if you have 2011-2012, you will need to generate an unlock code using your RADIO ID from the vehicle!

RScottyL I downloaded the 33.02.01 firmware .zip file. I extracted the zip and it had three folders I selected all files from the folder, 33.02.01. When I go to transfer it to a flash drive it tells me several of the files are encrypted. I tried it without encryption and the head unit will not read files, says there are no files on the flash drive. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

I have a question maybe Cat can help me out, or anyone for that matter. I am trying to update the map in my wife's car, which from reading on a diff forum I found out the file structure is similar to that of a 3490 or 3590 LMT. The other forum stated the exact files needed to bring her car up to the 2015.10 updated map, but I figured I would try this map since it is newer. I figured out the correct JCV file, and I believe I have the correct ASR files I need for her car, I also unlocked the gmapprom.img file that I need, the only thing I am stumped on is in the other forum I read that for the 2015.10 update (and many previous updates people have done on the same system that is in her car) that a gmaptz.img file is needed. I followed a link on this forum and found out that this file is the time zone map img, but what I am confused about is time zones don't typically change so can I just copy the gmaptz.img file that is already in her current garmin system (which according to the file is a 2009 mapset even though her car is a 2012) and put that into the 2016.20 map I will be putting in her car, or is there a new gmaptz.img file that is created with every map update and I need to find the specific one that goes with 2016.20? Sorry for the long post, any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Matt, the gmaptz.img file indeed contains time zone data. You are right that time zones generally don't change, but Day Light Saving start and end dates may vary from country to country over the years. Hence updated time zone files. The gmaptz.img file is not specific to the gmapsupp.img navigation map.

What make / model GPS does your wife have in her car?

My wife's car has a Garmin Nav the only thing I can find as far as model is CTP12 (she is at work right now so I cant go out and check her car) i believe that is the number that refers to the Garmin model number but excuse me if I am wrong. That's what actually brought me to this site. Someone else with the same exact car/radio/nav that my wife has, updated his to the 2015.10 mapset on a different forum and listed the files he used to do this. So I have been using all the info from this site to learn as much as I can and figure out the newer files I need from the 2016.20 mapset based off the files he put in his car from the 2015.10 mapset...sorry if that sounds a little confusing

It also may be worth noting that the person in the other forum with the same nav that is in my wife's car said he got all his files to update to the 2015.10 map out of a Garmin nuvi 3490LMT or 3590LMT and said that these units are guaranteed to be compatible with the nav that is in her car (aside from the JCV file) but I found the correct one using info from this site about how the last numbers increase by 10 digits for every new map and using dealer mode in her car to browse her nav directory and finding her current JCV file

ok so based on what smoke said the gmaptz.img file that is currently in the file dir. in my wife's car may or may not be the file I need (which would be the most current). When I looked at the file dir. in her car this morning before she left for work I believe it said that the gmaptz.img file that is currently in her car was originally created in 2009 and used in her 2012 mapset. Does anyone know if there is a more current (after 2009) gmaptz.img file that has been on a map update or is this one created in 09 the most current? and if so does anyone know where I can find it?

G'day Saugie. I wouldn't fuss too much about the gmaptz.img mate. As SF said, it only changes to keep up with daylight saving adjustments. Be careful of which TTS voice files you try to add though as the wrong type [there's 3] can maybe brick the unit. Your wife's car [Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge] has a UConnect unit and we actually have this existing thread for the CTP11/12 units' specific loading requirements. Even RScottyL the author of the tut in the charger forum has posted here last Oct to see if he can lend a hand so continue your questions here if you have any further ones, you'll get far more targeted help.

BTW, he also updated the thread in the Charger forum last Oct and it now deals with the NA 2016.20 map and it's specific files:

This is why this forum is so good, after I was moved to this thread and reading all the previous posts I found out that I was about to make a mistake by trying to load the map update into the car with the gmapprom.img file unlocked which seems to have been the reason some of the other updates were unsuccessful, so I will replace it with the locked file I originally downloaded.

I noticed that RScottyL also added the gmapbmap.img file to his update to 2016.20, while reading previous posts in this thread several people said that this file was not needed, did anyone ever figure out if this is a new updated bmap file that I need to add to this update or will I just be wasting time by adding it and the one already in the nav will be fine?

Yes you must use the locked detail map with an unl file.

It's all in the wording, you don't need to replace the basemap, but you do need to have the basemap. It's the same as with the timezone map, replace or don't replace - it'll make b*gger-all difference. Just make sure you do have them loaded, particularly the basemap. I guess you might say that if you're not sure then load them and they'll just overwrite any already there, but then at least you know you do have them. But the downside is the extra loading time and the chance you might have a power-down or something else will go wrong. If you know you have them, leave them, even if they aren't latest versions they'll be good enough. Main thing is the new detail map and it's associated additional files that need to be done.
