I plugged in a USB drive with a Garmin folder and the program seems to see it as a device and will install the map to the drive - now this could also be an issue as it doesnt come from a device but I am not sure.

Its somewhat frustrating to say the least.

If the Garmin folder on the usb drive has a valid GarminDevice.xml file on it, yes it may be recognised as an actual device with original [unpatched] program exe's BUT the patched version of MapInstall will send to any drive at all: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Not at all, down a few beers and take a nap. I'm about 30% thru the upload ... shouldn't be too long if the ADSL doesn't fail.

I thought it would be useful if I posted some of the version numbers I have come across on the unit.

From what I can tell, the unit has not been updated since factory.

    CTP 2011 Software Version 3.10

On a seperate screen it lists Software Versions:
    GPS 2.90
    Text 3.10 (American English)
    Audio 1.80 (American English-Jack)

Basemap : WW Autoroute DEM Basemap NR 2.00

Map info : OEM City Navigator North America+Mexico NT 2011

Should be the same as adding the other files from the usb i guess, e.g.:

    └───Garmin
    . ├───Voice
    . │ Francais_Canadien_Julie.vpm
    . │ Francais_Canadien_Felix.vpm

Assuming you might want those dulcet froggy tones of course ...

Just about to run the USB out to the car, heres hoping!

UPDATE: So far so good, it verified successfully. Detected the map, requested and accepted the unlock code. As of right not it appears to be installing.
Going to take a little while, been 20 minutes installing so far - I am going to leave it a little bit.

How about you konchuz? Any luck?

I'm about 30% into the update.... So far so good! Only thing I'm worried about is the jcv at this point..... The one I included was for the split screen.... I'm wondering if I should have gone with the full screen instead....

The more i think about it the more i think full screen was the better choice. I'm pretty sure our radio only shows full screen and not split which means the image will wind up stretched out. I sure hope I'm wrong....

    UPDATE

Success!!! The junction view is little stretched but not way I thought would be. Not much of an issue at all plus I can always swap that file with another in the future.... Well when I decide I want to sit for another hour that is lol.

Great work guys. I have to admit that i was a little sus about you using the split-screen because these units seem to be running older-type software [no GMA protection], so it seemed more likely to me that they'd use the original-version full-screen JCV files. However nuvi-type units such as 1xxx series can use a split too, even though they are meant to display the full-screen. Sometimes it will work the other way around too, but not as successfully and often with really weird displays as in the third and fourth images below. If your units are meant for full-screen, the split will display stretched and fuzzy and 'washed-out' looking due to the lower resolution. The first image is how it shows in a unit meant for it, the second image is how it shows in a 4.3" screen unit meant for full screen only, but probably it'd be even worse because of your large screen [7" i guess]:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ][Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    448501 450172

The D3060160A.JCV full is quite a bit larger than the D3191150A.JCV Split but the former is 480*270 pixel picture size while the latter is 212*234 which explains the quite noticable lower resolution when viewed on your large screens. The full file also has somewhat less actual juction views too even though the file size is larger, again because of the overall smaller sizes of the 212*234 pictures.

It shouldn't be too much trouble for you to delete the split and add the full if you want to try it. Don't have both on board though, there'll be conflict problems.

I noticed that 3D Buildings and Landmarks image [gmap3d.img] was mentioned in the first post and once the charger forum tut as well. Are your units capable of displaying that? If so you might be able to load the locked one with an unl file to get these views in large cities:

Hmmmm now I'm debating.... Wondering if it's worth sacrificing the number of junction views to have the higher resolution ones. The 2013 and up radios support the split screen junctions and they support the 3d buildings ours however do not support either. The 2013 and up radios also support the traffic files as well..... I'm looking into voice files right now.... I love experimenting for some reason lol
