Default Spidy Bits the Mags had :offtopic:

    Hi all
I know this is not GPS related.
But today at 6AM I was bitten by a Red Back Spider in my Bed, I was bitten just above the left knee, the left foot and the right ankle after which I seemed to kill the spidy.
I have had a hell of a day with localized pain, and no other symptoms so normal pain killers were used, as we speak have had a few beers and a port, I could not take to many of the normal Panadol drugs coz of side effects, and booze is working "don't tell tha missus" if you have ever been stung by a Bee or Wasp and know that will last a few hours think twice a red back is more intense and hey is going on for 13hrs now, don't worry the Mags is tough and will see how the night goes.
As I said no other pain other than local to the Bite. If there was any other effects of to the Hospital I go.
See you tomorrow "coz the Mags is going to live forever then Die."

Unless you are allergic to the venom which may lead to Anaphylactic Shock [just as a bee or wasp sting can go that way for some ppl], it's quite painful but usually not life-threatening. The modern treatment is cold packs and raise the body part if a limb's involved and rest, take mild analgesics too. Don't use compression bandaging. The worst of the localised pain and itching is over in 24 hrs usually, but if you get headache, nausea or vomiting get to a major hospital emergency room asap. Use your GPS to get there [see that? neatly back on-topic]. There's a anti-venom, it's been around for about 60 years but is only used if symptoms are severe or for kids usually. No one has died from a redback bite for many decades now.

I've had personal experience, been bitten twice by the little buggers. Not by the same one tho' because i squashed it both times .

Good plan. Spider bites can be very nasty and possibly long lasting, and who knows what kind of weird spiders you have over there. We have black widow spiders here. They r not something to fool with. If, as you say, they "show any other effects" go to the hospital, and like what'shisname said, use your GPS to get there. I was bitten by a rattle snake once in Darwin Falls near Death Valley. It got better quick enough, but yeah I've heard of spider bites that didn't. And if u want to see something totally unearthly, alien looking, google "spider eyes".

My son when was in Australia found one mouse spider in his hotel shower stall, he said it was big and fat and he squashed it lol
He has been a bit scared by Aussie fauna but he has been fascinated with the nature and beauty of the country.

Related to Redbacks. Actually, occasionally in Nth Qld i've seen a female redback without the distinctive red hourglass and they look very like the NA Black Widow at first glance.

Really?? It got better? Poor bl**dy thing probably died in truth, or at the very least took weeks before the foul taste was gone .....

Really unusual to find a mouse spider inside. Good he squashed it, those b*ggers have a nasty bite especially the ones with the red head. I think they might be related to funnel web spiders which can kill a kid or small adult without treatment and antivenom, and it's the Sydney Funnel Web antivenom that's used for mouse spider bites.
