    Default How to modify nuvi firmware for supporting a new TTS voice.

    Tools::
    Hex editor
    RGN_Tool

    How to ::
    Just replace a non-use TTS voice with your new one within fw_all.
    First you need to know where TTS voice is in .
    To use Hex editor to find it out !
    A well known TTS voice is English American Jill.
    So simply search .

    Then we will edit by replacing the original TTS voice with new one.
    Next :: Checksum

    That's it.

    NOTE: To add an unsupported voice to your firmware without having to edit it using a Hex Editor, go to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for detailed instructions on using RGN Voice Editor V2.02. Works for both non-TTS and TTS voices.

    Hi Aekhong ,

    I tried searching with the word "Jill" in the "Text string" on the XVI32 Hex Editor , I can find the search result for 7 "Jill" , and I don't see the screen like you show here .
    I'm not sure I did something wrong or not , would you mind give me more instructions on how to find it ?

    And another step is how can i do the Checksum for the modified fw_all.bin ?

    Thank you very much , will be waiting to have the 765T SG/MY 2.50 Speaking Thai once again :D

    You have to search as unicode., not just for text string.

    Hi ,

    In this case , I see that you are using "Thai_Somsri.vpm" as the TTS Voice , but I don't have it here yet , I just have the "Thai_Narisa.vpm" , so I guess I have to change to "Thai_Narisa.vpm" on this case , right ? Will the part number be the same ? If not , how can i find it ?

    Apologize for a lot of questions , newbie on this .

    Use Hex Editor to open new TTS voice.
    Then search !!
    You will get the part number for replacing in f/w.
    And yes., you have to chang to the correct TTS file name.

    Hi ,

    I'm really not sure that I did it right or not , when i changed the string in the Karen area to be Thai Narisa , there's some character so i just deleted it , is it right ?
    And after that after I do the checksum and load into the ".GCD file" again , it seems not right , the HWID and SW Version doesn't show .

    Yes, you have to delete.
    By replacing with 00 (zero zero) in the left side (Not the right side).

    Then do checksum.
    use rgn_tool
    load original boot.bin
    load modified fw_all.bin
    override hwid to same as boot.bin

    you will see what hwid is for boot and fw_all., if not = you are wrong.
    Ok , Great advise , i'll follow it
    Thank you very much for your great head-start for newbie like me .

    Hi Aekhong ,

    I just follow your instruction again , now i got the mod GCD file , which has the same byte / size .. is it all right ?
    HWID is override to be the same which is 1069 and SW version is 250

    I saved it out as "GCD" and "RGN" , do you think it's safe to install into the 765T now ?
    which way is better anyway ? Please share the idea.

    Thank you very much .

    For mod gcd--> wiil not work because you use the same swv2.50
    so ., chang swv to higher or lower.

    For rgn ., it will flash to your nuvi.

    for .gcd ., it's better to put in cs card\garmin

    if your mod gcd is the same bytes --> it's right.

    For me ., I like to use .gcd file.
    DOn't worry., You use original boot.bin
    Your nuvi will be ok.
