And to help reduce space accumulation over time. A life point (in days; prefer set by users) can be added that automatically removed it after certain day. For smaller files of less than certain size, life point is immortal.

Unfortunately there is no option to put a life point for attachments in VBulletin.
May be there is a mod for this , but plugins slow down forum , so we add them only if strictly necessary.

Write script to scan and audit from backend; don't rely on VBulletin. Just give user warning that files more than certain size might be remove via monthly audit.

I don't want attachments might be randomly removed if they are still useful.
For example we have attached some small Bluecharts g2 or some islands Topo Maps.
Some files cant be found in the net anymore after some months.
Useless threads go to trash and big attachs usually are deleted; from time to time a check in Admin CP is made to remove useless files.
A script IMHO cant substitute this kind of job unfortunately.

I don't see a problem. Whatever size currently allow to attached is the minimal size to keep forever. Allow larger but more "temporary" attachment. Like I said, warn the user that it would be removed after certain time via auto audit.

    Hi,
I will not quote your post.
It seems You are not reading posts from Caty.
What use is to "warn users" that files will be removed, if files will be removed?
Some very old files posted from members that don't visit this forum any more are still available because they are useful and important to others.
Members that uploaded these files maybe don't have them anymore, because they don't need them, but somebody else might need them.
I don't have some files I posted as attachments few years ago, so I can not re-upload them if someone asks.

Do You understand now what is Caty talking about?
